October 6, 2000 - FOR FRIDAY MORNING Imation Corporation warned investors yesterday that its third quarter results would fall below expectations. The Twin Cities-based data storage and image management company will eliminate about 10 percent of its total workforce. Imation's poor performance is a big change of fortune for a company that a year ago was enjoying strong growth. Minnesota Public Radio's Andrew Haeg reports.

October 9, 2000 - Some people in the central Minnesota town of Pine City don't like their county government. They claim decisions by the Pine County Board always favor people in the other half of the county. There have been lawsuits and counter suits. Some residents say they're so fed up they want out. They've put a proposal on the November ballot to split Pine County in half. Opponents of the measure are just as passionate and say both new counties would go bankrupt. Minnesota Public Radio's Chris Julin has this report.
October 9, 2000 - Katherine Koch-Laveen of Apple Valley High School is Minnesota's Teacher of the Year for 2000. Koch-Laveen has taught chemistry and science at Apple Valley since it opened in 1976. She was selected from 98 finalists and will represent Minnesota in the national competition.
October 9, 2000 - Researchers at the University of Minnesota are planning to survey the parents of nearly 4,000 children adopted from overseas between 1990 and 1998. The researchers hope the International Adoption Project will lead to a better understanding of the health and behavior of children adopted from abroad. Minnesota Public Radio's Lynette Nyman has the first in a 3-part series on international adoption.
October 9, 2000 - Sports fans across the nation will get a chance to watch rookie quarterback Dante Culpepper and the rest of the Minnesota Vikings in prime time when they take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the Metrodome on Monday Night Football. The unbeaten Vikings are hoping to extend their 4 and O record. The Buccaneers are 3 and 2. Bill Brown is a former Vikings rusher who played from 1962 to 1974. He played in 3 Super Bowls and understands the pressure this year's team is facing after getting so close to the Super Bowl in 1998. He says he likes what he's seen so far this season:
October 9, 2000 - Dr. Robert Fisch's life has taken him from his youth in Hungary, to a concentration camp during World War II , to the United States and eventually a medical practice in the Twin Cities. Fisch has chronicled that journey in oil paintings that are currently on display at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. Fisch has also compiled the paintings along with his personal essays in a book called "Metamorphosis to Freedom." In the book, Fisch writes "we must always remain human...toward everyone, in all circumstances." He says American citizens, especially young people, don't fully appreciate their independence:
