October 4, 2000 - Governor Jesse Ventura unveiled his latest attempt to get young people to the polls today.... a video parody of the popular movie "The Matrix." In the five minute video, Ventura stars as the leader of a futuristic rebel group trying to convince a young college student that he can change the world IF he exercises his right to vote. The video, which will be shown across Minnesota college campuses this fall is a production of the Dudley Riggs' Brave New Workshop. Script-writer Jeff Hopkins says the college student in the video is modeled after Keanu Reeve's character in the movie, NEO.

October 6, 2000 - A Minneapolis apartment building which has been a magnet for criminal activity is undergoing a facelift. 1818 Park Avenue South has new owners and many new tenants. And, with the help of the city's Weed and Seed program, neighborhood residents are hopeful that the building will no longer be a trouble spot. MPR's Brandt Williams reports.
October 6, 2000 - The 19th annual Twin Cities Marathon takes place this Sunday.The 26.2-mile course begins near the Metrodome in Minneapolis and finishes at the State Capitol in St. Paul. 85 runners have competed in all 18 previous Twin Cities marathons. 73-year-old Mary Lou Carlson is the oldest female runner of this elite group. Carlson's husband inspired her to start running. He took up the sport while she was in her fifties... at first she thought he was crazy...especially when he ran in the winter.

October 6, 2000 - People attending a memorial service in Duluth today will celebrate the life of a lost friend, but they are also hoping her story will raise awareness of a health crisis in America. At the age of 27 Heather Henderson had been a writer and a magazine editor. She'd dedicated the last few years to combating dangerous images of women in the media. She was spurred in part by her personal decade long battle with anorexia and bulimia, a battle she lost last week. Stephanie Hemphill reports .
October 6, 2000 - The exhibition games are behind them and tonight the Minnesota Wild take on the Mighty Ducks in Anaheim to open the regular National Hockey League season. The wins and losses now count toward the Wild's season record. No one expects the Wild to contend for the Stanley Cup. But the editor of the Minnesota Hockey Journal Ross Bernstein (Burn STEEN), says the team looked pretty good in the preseason.
October 6, 2000 - MPR’s Annie Feidt reports on the University of Minnesota's newest varsity team, the women's rowing team, as it prepares for its first competition. They will race in the Head of the Mississippi regatta, a three-mile race on the Mississippi River that cuts through the middle of campus.
