Excerpt of U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar speaking at Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works hearing regarding 35W bridge collapse.
The Minneapolis bridge collapse took center stage at a Senate committee hearing on Capitol Hill today. Secretary of Transportation Mary Peters told the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works that the country does not face a transportation safety crisis. But, committee chair Barbara Boxer challenged Peters, asking "How can you say that everything is rosy when 13 people died?" Both Minnesota senators testified at the hearing looking into the condition of the nation's bridges. Democrat Amy Klobuchar says the Minneapolis collapse didn't happen because of an earthquake or a barge collision. Instead, she says, something went terribly wrong.
