Listen: No Place for a Woman
0:00

MPR’s Catherine Winter and Stephanie Hemphill present an American RadioWorks documentary titled “No Place for a Woman.” The documentary explores the legal landmark and legacy for women’s rights in the northern Minnesota’s Iron Range.

In the 1970s, Women began breaking into male-dominated professions as never before. Women took jobs as police officers, lawyers, and steel workers. Across the country, the first women in male bastions faced a hostile reception. In the iron ranges of northern Minnesota, women were harrassed, threatened and assaulted. Their fight to keep their jobs broke new legal ground, and helped change the workplace forever.
