January 30, 2001 - Minnesotans headed up North for a little fishing or a weekend at the cabin are used to them - billboards proclaiming great deals, fresh leeches or the best burgers in town. In an area of the state that relies heavily on tourism, billboards are big business . But a group of citizens south of Brainerd want motorists to see only the scenery along a new stretch of road. Their effort has some business boosters worried that thousands of tourists will never know what Brainerd has to offer. Mainstreet Radio's Tim Post reports.
January 30, 2001 - MPR’s Tim Post reports on a winter storm that dumped freezing rain and snow across much of the state. Freezing rain spread a layer of ice in central and southern Minnesota while residents in western Minnesota and the Dakotas received mostly snow; anywhere from a few inches to more than a foot.
January 9, 2001 - Hundreds of dairy farmers gathered in Freeport today (Tuesday) to get an update on slumping prices in the dairy industry. Democratic Senator Mark Dayton and Representative Collin Peterson were there to gather input on a solution to low prices. Farmers in the crowd said whatever the answer might be, they need to see relief soon. Mainstreet Radio's Tim Post reports.
December 15, 2000 - Congress is expected to vote on and pass a 450 billion dollar legislative package today that includes funding for labor, education and healthcare. Minnesota healthcare workers are watching the bill closely, because it contains 100 million dollars for the state's hospitals. The money is intended to make up for cuts in the medicare program after the 1997 Balanced Budget Act. Healthcare officials say its a step in the right direction, but that they'll need more funding to keep Minnesota's hospitals healthy. Mainstreet Radio's Tim Post has this report.
December 12, 2000 - A British power company announced it will build a turkey manure-fired power plant in the West Central Minnesota town of Benson. The plant will provide Excel Energy with a portion of biomass created electricity it's required to purchase each year. Minnesota Public Radio's Tim Post reports.

November 8, 2000 - St Cloud Voters approved a half cent sales tax for the city in Tuesday's election. The tax, if approved by the Minnesota legislature, would collect 40 million dollars for the city's library, parks and transportation needs. Minnesota Public Radio's Tim Post reports.
November 6, 2000 - MPR’s Tim Post reports on the 1,600 Frigidaire who workers have been on strike for about a week, claiming a recent contract proposal from the company includes a pay raise that doesn't keep pace with insurance premium increases. Strikes of this size are rare in central Minnesota where organized labor has never had a strong presence, but some say unions are on the upswing in this part of the state.
