October 9, 2010 - Gov. Tim Pawlenty repeated his opposition Friday to so-called "insurance exchanges," a key piece of health care reform. He said exchanges amount to government interfering with the free market. That's a reversal from 2007, when Pawlenty proposed his own insurance exchange program for Minnesota businesses. Pawlenty says his opposition to exchanges is the reason he declined to send the US Government a state response to questions about exchanges. Three prominent Minnesota health groups secured a copy of the response and sent it anyway. Former GOP senator Dave Durenberger, a health policy expert, says their move was understandable. Pawlenty says a 2008 state analysis of exchanges found they'd be ineffective at reining in costs.

August 2, 2007 - The I-35W bridge that collapsed in Minneapolis was forty years old. Governor Tim Pawlenty says the bridge had been inspected twice in the past two years and no structural deficiencies were identified. The bridge was being resurfaced and had several lanes closed when it crumbled.

January 20, 2004 - Minneapolis based US Bancorp is warning customers not to respond to bogus e-mails that are intended to trick people into giving out sensitive personal information. The e-mails appear to come from the bank and say the recipient's account has been blocked because it may have been compromised by outside parties. This sort of e-mail scam is called phishing, spelled with a "p-h", and experts say it's on the rise. Minnesota Public Radio's Bill Catlin reports.
December 31, 2003 - Just days before a last-ditch round of contract talks, the Mesaba Airlines pilots' union has sued the company. The union says Mesaba mishandled hundreds of thousands of dollars in retirement funds. The company has acknowledged making mistakes and says it is correcting them. But company officials called the lawsuit unnecessary and a distraction. Minnesota Public Radio's Bill Catlin reports.
