September 3, 1998 - Minnesota Governor Arne Carlson today joined a several governors from across the upper midwest in calling on President Clinton to force striking Northwest pilots back to work. Carlson says as the strike, now in its sixth day, drags on the economy is taking a hit. Carlson says doesn't look as though the two sides will be able to resolve the matter without intervention.
September 4, 1998 - Judy Schaubauch and Sandra Peterson, the co-presidents of the new teachers' union, Education Minnesota, visit MPR’s Gary Eichten at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. Schaubauch and Peterson discuss education issues in the news and answer questions from the fair audience.

September 4, 1998 - MPR’s John Rabe talks with neighbors of Khoua Her, who is accused of killing her six children in their home. The neighbors describe being left sad and confused.
September 4, 1998 - MPR’s Tim Pugmire reports that authorities in St. Paul say they were long aware of domestic problems at the apartment where six children were apparently killed by their mother. But Chief William Finney says there was never any indication the three boys and three girls were in danger. Police arrested the 24-year-old mother after responding to her frantic call for help.

September 7, 1998 - MPR's Tom Robertson reports from Bemidji, where It's harvest time for wild rice in Minnesota, and nowhere is the season more important than on the Leech Lake Indian Reservation in northern Minnesota. The reservation has more than 6,000 acres of wild rice beds within its boundaries.
September 7, 1998 - The last day of the Minnesota State Fair is more than just one last opportunity to walk around in public eating fried cheese on sticks. Today is the culmination of the 4-H livestock competitions, when all the prize-winning animals go up for auction. The bids are well above market price, and the money is split between local charities and the 4-H kids who raised the winning animals.
September 7, 1998 - Labor Day marks the end of the Minnesota State Fair. If you got a chance to walk around Machinery Hill this year, you probably noticed lawmowers have replaced many of the tractors. Farm equipment that might have been state of the art at past fairs is now on display at the Old Iron Show, a farm antique show.
