October 15, 2002 - Financial reports filed today with Federal Elections Commission show the Senate campaigns of DFL-er Paul Wellstone and Republican Norm Coleman had raised nearly $18 million through the end of September. Even without October and early November contributions this year's Senate race has surpassed fundraising in the 2000 race between Rod Grams and Mark Dayton. And going into the home stretch of thecampaign Coleman, for the first time in the campaign, has a lead over Wellstone in campaign cash on hand. Minnesota Public Radio's Mark Zdechlik reports...

October 17, 2002 - Incumbent Democratic Senator Paul Wellstone and Republican challenger Norm Coleman are locked in a close race for the U.S. Senate. The race, like 33 others all across the country, could be the one that tips the balance of power in the Senate, which now has 50 Democrats, 49 Republicans, and 1 Independent who usually votes with the Democrats. Wellstone and Coleman, are joined in the race by the Independence Party's Jim Moore, and the Green Party's Ray Tricomo. October 18, 2002 - The Sierra Club's National Executive Director is in Minnesota to draw attention to today's 30th anniversary of the Clean Water Act. Carl Pope says that 40 percent of America's lakes, rivers and streams still do not meet federal clean water standards and that more than 75% of the population lives within 10 miles of a polluted waterway. Pope is also in town to encourage voters to support candidates committed to protecting Minnesota's lakes, rivers and streams. He says the Clean Water Act was a milestone in the efforts to protect water in the United States:
October 18, 2002 - President Bush was back in Minnesota today, rallying the GOP faithful to work hard over the next three weeks to elect Republicans in November's election. This afternoon's stop in Rochester marks the fourth time Bush has visited Minnesota since he persuaded former St. Paul Mayor Norm Coleman to take on DFL Senator Paul Wellstone.
