September 16, 2003 - Mickie Turk is co-producer and director of the documentary "Wayward Girls." The film is scheduled to appear twice in the Central Standard Film Festival in Minneapolis on Thursday and then again on Sunday.
September 18, 2003 - MPR’s David Molpus interviews Bruce Coppock, The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra president and managing director, about SPCO program highlighting "degenerate" music from the Nazi era.
September 18, 2003 - The Central Standard Film Festival is underway in a variety of theaters around the Twin Cities. It features independent American films that come not from either coast, but from the middle of the country. Several of the films were shot in Minnesota including "Polka Time" about the annual festival in Gibbon, Minnesota.
September 18, 2003 - MPR's Stephanie Curtis reports that the Minnesota Orchestra is celebrating its centennial year with its new music director, Osmo Vänskä , finally in place. He is the orchestra's tenth music director and like others, he will be compared with his predecessors. Some critics say they hope the orchestra doesn't repeat mistakes made when it appointed Eiji Oue as music director.

September 23, 2003 - Arthur Nersesian's novel "Chinese Takeout" is not really about food. It's more of a wild tour of the New York art scene. The book's hero, Orloff Trenchant, supports his painting by selling second-hand books on the street. He lives in his van, and spends much of his time dodging parking enforcement. He owes thousands of dollars in unpaid tickets. He loses his girlfriend after accusing her of being unfaithful, then falls in love with a heroin addict called Rita. Trenchant swings from moments of wry humor to dark hopelessness, but all the while he is spurred to paint. Arthur Nersesian told Minnesota Public Radio's Euan Kerr many of the things in the story come from personal experience. He says he wanted to capture the highs and the lows of the New York artistic experience.

October 6, 2003 - London's Improbable Theater troupe returns to the Twin Cities tomorrow. In cooperation with the Walker Art Center and Theatre de la Jeune Lune, the ensemble group will perform The Hanging Man. The partially improvised play tells the story of an architect who receives superb reviews for his first building and, as a result, is offered great amounts of money to create his second structure.
