September 4, 1998 - MPR’s Eric Jansen reports on status of Northwest Airlines strike. Report includes numerous clips of commentary, including Walter Mondale, who is an NWA board member. The U.S. Transportation Department has ordered Northwest Airlink flights to resume, despite Northwest Airlines being shut down by a pilot’s strike. Also, Northwest flight attendants who were laid off this week rallied at the state capitol to say they're 100 percent behind the pilots. The Federal Department of Transportation ordered Mesaba Aviation and Express Airlines to resume flights to 17 rural communities. The two airlines fly Northwest Airlink routes to Northwest Airlines hubs in Minneapolis.
September 7, 1998 - The last day of the Minnesota State Fair is more than just one last opportunity to walk around in public eating fried cheese on sticks. Today is the culmination of the 4-H livestock competitions, when all the prize-winning animals go up for auction. The bids are well above market price, and the money is split between local charities and the 4-H kids who raised the winning animals.

October 12, 1998 - Back in the mid-sixties, garage rock bands such as the Trashmen, the Castaways, the Del Counts, and the Gestures were churning out one hit after another. That era has been captured on a 2 CD set called "The Big Hits of Mid-America... The Soma Records Story," produced by Steve Wilson, local pop historian. MPR’s Chris Roberts interviews Wilson, as well as Trashmen guitarist Tony Andreason, to help us re-live the memories.

November 27, 1998 - MPR’s Lynette Nyman reports on thousands of people gathering in St. Paul’s RiverCentre to celebrate the Hmong New Year. It's a time of cultural and commercial significance as people visit friends and family, browse Hmong merchandise, and watch performances of both traditional and modern dances. Nyman speaks with various participants at the event.
December 12, 1998 - Our Voices of Minnesota series features Minneapolis astronaut Colonel Bob Cabana who is commanding the Space Shuttle Endeavor, which is set for launch Thursday morning to begin building the International Space Station.
