October 23, 2000 - It's been one full week since the ramp meter shutdown began. The metro area's 430 ramp meter lights were turned off so the state could find out what traffic would be like without them. October 23, 2000 - The Minnesota Vikings came from behind once again yesterday to defeat the Buffalo Bills 31-27 at the Metrodome. Randy Moss made an amazing catch at the back of the end zone to give the Vikings the lead with less than four minutes to go in the fourth quarter. Kicker Gary Anderson added a field goal which gave him more points than any player in NFL history. The Vikings are now seven and oh and are the only undefeated team in the National Football League. October 23, 2000 - Governor Ventura embarks today on the first full day of his Mexican trade mission. His visit comes at a momentous time in the country's history. For the first time in 71 years, the dominant political party will hand over power to an opposition leader. Later today Ventura will go to Mexico's presidential palace to meet the outgoing president, Ernesto Zedillo. Ventura says he sees parallels in Mexican politics with his own rise to power. Minnesota Public Radio's Andrew Haeg who's travelling with the governor has reports.

October 23, 2000 - Republican Senator Rod Grams appears to be facing the toughest fight of his relatively short political career this year. DFLer Mark Dayton, who has outspent Grams four to one since the primary, has opened a wide lead in the polls. But Grams, a former television anchorman, has proven the pundits wrong before, when he won a Congressional seat on his first political attempt, and won election to the Senate after just one term in Congress. Minnesota Public Radio's Laura McCallum looks at the career and campaign of Rod Grams.
October 23, 2000 - In two weeks, Minneapolis voters will decide whether to approve $110-million dollars for a new Central Library. The current building, located between Hennepin and Nicollet Avenues, was built in 1961 and is already packed with more than two and a half million books, magazines tapes and videos, most of which are locked away from the public, accessible only through a librarian. Last week the library began offering tours of its extensive "stacks" collection to let the public see some of its hidden treasures. Officials say the hour-and-a-half tours are not linked to the upcoming vote for a new library.
October 23, 2000 - Minnesota's four major party candidates for U.S. Senate debated agriculture policy, as well as federal spending for nursing homes and the military, today at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato. Constitution Party candidate David Swan brought a radically different perspective to such now-familiar topics as social security, calling such government programs unconstitutional and saying they should be eliminated. Meanwhile DFL candidate Mark Dayton predicted a bitter conclusion to the Senate race, and Republican incumbent Rod Grams defended his use of negative ads. Minnesota Public Radio's Amy Radil reports.
