September 8, 2000 - Some of those profiting from the long economic boom are looking to give away a portion of their fortunes. These newly minted philanthropists are younger, and more racially and ethnically diverse than their predecessors. They're also helping to re-think traditional ideas about philanthropy. Some of these new generation givers gathered with business and non-profit leaders in St. Paul today to consider the role of philanthropy in an age of prosperity. Minnesota Public Radio's Andrew Haeg reports.
September 8, 2000 - {I'm Art Hughes in Rochester. Today U-S Senate candidate Mike Ciresi launched his final campaign push before the primary election. Over the next four days Ciresi will attend pancake breakfasts, appear on radio talk shows and do what he calls 'mainstreeting'--shaking hands with voters in public places.
September 8, 2000 - Often when people talk about charitable giving and business, the emphasis is on large corporate-funded foundations. But the vast majority of businesses in Minnesota, as around the country, are SMALL companies. Research suggests, employee-for-employee, small companies are much more generous than their larger counterparts. Small businesses will often pay for projects that benefit the community AND boost their standing with neighbors and customers.
