MPR presents the final debate for Minnesota’s 1st Congressional District between DFL Congressman Tim Walz and his Republican challenger Jim Hagerdorn. The two debated many of the major issues facing Minnesotans...the debt, social security, agriculture, health care and immigration. 

Debate was held in Mankato, sponsored by KSMQ Public Television, the Mankato Free Press, Greater Mankato Growth, and the South Central College Student Senate.

Tim Walz is the incumbent U.S. Representative for the 1st District, being first elected in 2006 and seeking his fifth term. He is a high school teacher at Mankato West High School and retired Command Sergeant Major, US Army National Guard.

Jim Hagedorn is the son of former U.S. Representative Tom Hagedorn. He is a Blue Earth resident and believes government's role should be limited.
