All Things Considered’s Lorna Benson interviews State Patrol Chief Anne Beers about overtime being offered in fulfilling security of the governor. Some of Jesse Ventura's State Patrol security officers are earning nearly as much per year as the governor.
Thirteen full-time troopers make up the governor's security detail. A couple of those officers average more than 30 hours of overtime a week...boosting salaries of roughly $50,000 a year to more than $100,000. Beers says it would be impossible to adequately protect the governor with just 13 officers without the overtime option. She says the governor and his family need constant protection.
