I guarantee 6 minutes now past 12. Good afternoon, and welcome back to mid-day on Minnesota Public Radio. I'm Gary itinerant. Glad you could join us as our countdown to election day continues a reminder. And if you miss the debate will be rebroadcasting the debate as part of our pre-election special broadcast tomorrow afternoon starting at one another reminder. We'll have a second special weekend broadcast on the election issues at 7 this Sunday evening. So plenty of opportunities to zero in on new you might want to vote for come election day on Tuesday this hour, we'd like to conduct a poll of shorts. Now we've heard from lots of experts we reported on lots of poles this hour would like to hear from you which candidate for governor. Do you support and for that matter if you haven't made up your mind yet? What will help you make that decision. My Tuesday open lines today, you're on. Midday. The only thing we ask is that you keep your comments relatively short so that we can get to just as many colors as possible. And of course as usual a little civility goes a long way. So give us a call. Who are you supporting? What are you waiting to hear? If you haven't made up your mind yet. We're talking about the race for governor in the state of Minnesota. Love to have you join our conversation at 2 to 7 6007 6000 outside the Twin Cities 1-800 to +422-828-227-6000 or one 800-242-2828. Who are you planning to vote for and why or what are you waiting to hear? What will help you make that decision? Where's all three of the major party campaigns are putting on a full-court, press this weekend. Trying to get a little bit of an edge in what appears to be an extraordinary close race polls indicated this week that Democrats. Skip Humphrey and Republican Norm Coleman or virtually tied with reformer Jesse Ventura closing fast rumors, and we're going to have a size the word rumor is here, but rumors indicate that the race has gotten even closer in just in the last few days the difference in who wins and who doesn't may very well turn on who actually ends up voting on Tuesday and all three campaigns are working hard to make sure their supporters actually turn out Minnesota public radio's Jim Bickel reports at a Union headquarters in Minneapolis dfl volunteers are recruiting other volunteers for the campaign's final push. Hi, my name is Gene Coleman and I'm a volunteer with the dfl party and we're trying to drum up some people to come out and help us make phone calls up until Tuesday get off the boat thing to recruit enough volunteers to make more than 500,000 calls over the next five days. We will have well over four hundred phones volunteer phones. We will require probably about five to six thousand volunteers and another thousand or two to drop the literature. We want to drop in the final stage Lodge. It says he's had no trouble finding volunteers. We've seen a surgeon our volunteer capacity since the poll showed this race getting Tighter and the party has identified a hundred and fifty thousand potential voters will make it called more than once. There's a number of folks out there who generally don't vote in off-year elections. They're they're called drop off voters, and we're going to pay extra special attention to those folks this year. And that made mean to cause the Republicans are handling their get out the vote calls different late a company called strategic telecommunications has been hired to call over 500,000 loyal Minnesota Republicans. In addition a network of volunteers will be calling another 320,000 people who've been identified as Independence looking phone bank and just calling to let you know if you want lower taxes a first-rate to better schools. We are going to vote for Norm Coleman for governor next Tuesday George. He says in addition to making these so-called advocacy calls. The party is sent absentee ballots to 5,000 Minnesota residents who are in the military Terry this about 60 to 70% Republican. So we felt that that was a good constituency to reach that Reform Party headquarters located in the North Minneapolis storefront. Things aren't quite so organized in a backroom a group of volunteers surrounds a button making machine waiting to deliver Ventura buttons to an empty Basket in the front room. Meanwhile Reform Party chair, Diane Goldman is Fielding phone calls for governor. How about a 2 x 4 wooden sign? Now you're going to have to come pick it up till Madson is the field coordinator and webmaster for the Ventura campaign. He says the party May lack infrastructure, but not enthusiasm. Everybody is running on adrenaline right now. We are pumped. I mean we are pumped. I mean this is just so fun. You don't need to sleep. You don't need to eat. We're just thriving on the on the enthusiasm Madison says the Reform Party is get-out-the-vote efforts Etters on this weekend. So called drive to Victory Tour in addition 3000 Ventura supporters get messages from the campaign through email instead of a system of phone Banks campaign calls are made through what he calls a telephone tree one person calls the next one in that person called Cannon each of those called tan and it it spreads out. Okay number of people who don't ordinarily vote showing up on Tuesday and voting for Ventura University of Minnesota political scientist, Steve Rosen Stone says if that happens it would be unprecedented one looks The horoscope of American history and looks at those moment in time when we've had major third-party candidates show themselves at the presidential level. There's not a tenancy for those moments like 1948 or 1968 or 1992 or we've had some stunning third-party showings for turn out that should be any higher than otherwise would have been without those third-party candidates. What rosenstone admits that political scientists have been wrong before when it comes to the Ventura campaign for Minnesota Public Radio. I'm Jim Bickel reporting by the way, Secretary of State John grow is going to be issuing her annual pre election turnout prediction at 1 this afternoon course will have the Tails of the prediction. Lorna Benson will be speaking with Joe and grow on all things considered this afternoon that program starts at 3 today or course, we'll also have complete an updated campaign coverage through the afternoon here on Minnesota public radio right now. What we're doing is taking our own. Pole if you will those of you who listened you've heard all the coverage and you've heard from all the experts. So we're interested in finding out who you've decided to vote for and why or if you haven't made up your mind yet what it is that that will help you make that decision. Let me give me the phone number here. All our lines are busy right now. So don't dial in right this moment. You'll just get a busy signal get us a couple minutes to 276 thousand Twin City area number to 276 thousand out side the Twin Cities one 800-242-2828 caller is from Harris Minnesota joining. Welcome to mid-day. Thanks for calling in. Thank you. We going to go out for voting for Jesse Ventura. I think it's really refreshing to have that third candidate. I think there are a lot of Voters that are tired of both parties and I think that he is more of a common person. We're tired of these career politicians that scratch someone's back for this favor or that I think a lot of the great Patriots we've seen in the past Lincoln as a good example was this One of the common people and I really refreshed by him and his his ideas yourself when push comes to shove just won't be able to do that. You'll end up for voting for one of the other candidates are you won't vote at all. I think we have to vote our conscience and be well-informed and I think secret Governor. Thank you move on to another listener who joined us at this time from Minneapolis Paul for Jesse Ventura for governor and Denise Hartmann for house seat 61b. Go Reform Party. Why because I think we need better government. And I think the Reform Party can give that thank you. Thanks Paul K is now on the line from Wilmer good afternoon exciting campaign this year, but I want to say that I'm voting for Humphrey and for many different reasons and one of the main reasons is that he's in Minnesota with a Minnesota History and I think that is something that people should consider and also that I believe the moratorium on feedlots makes sense on the not only the environmental level but also economically because There's already an overproduction in the pork industry that a moratorium on feedlots is just a very common sense Factor. Would you consider yourself a traditional democratic and of a rank-and-file Democrat? All right. Thank you very much from Willmar Minnesota. And what we're doing this case you're just joining us is hoping to hear from you quite honestly, we have heard from virtually everybody else so far All The Insider Outsiders as well in the political process and they were getting so close to election day without it be fun to find out how you decided to vote. If you haven't made up your mind yet if you haven't decided which candidates for Governor you going to support we'd like to find out what it is that will help make help you make that decision to 276 thousand Twin City area number to join our conversation to 27. McDonald's on outside the Twin Cities one 800-242-2828 Steve your next place. That's a character out there and he's a he's a people's person and I think he really took a job. I don't trust Norman. I think he probably end up trying to build at the stadium and Skip Humphrey. Is that a person is he seems to be I think it's that all our money and I think it's time for governments change. And are you going to stick with that? You think it will go with it about 4, and I think that's kind of insulting to hear. All right. Thank you for your call. Let's move on now to call her from St. James Fred. Yes. Thanks for taking my call preciate it I am traditionally ADI FL voter. However this time I believe I'm going to vote for Norm Coleman the issue. Sueded me on this deals with K-12 funding as far as I can hear in the in the debate. Mr. Humphrey in particular has focused his entire attention on those parents who have chosen to send their kids to Public Schools his famous siphoning off quote. What I'm interested in hearing loss is someone who will speak to parents who have chosen other than public schools. There are quite a few of us and that we seem to have been ignored. In particular the issue to me. It seems to be one of those really religious freedom that the great majority of parents that elect to send their kids to non-public schools do so to Avail themselves of a an education that that includes a spiritual Dimension and the way the debate has been framed so far. We're really written out of that entirely as a person who is apparently going to be voting for Norm Coleman. Do you hope that he will end up assuming you get selected end up trying to pass some kind of voucher bill. I doubt it. Obviously, he does support a strengthened the credits and deductions Bill and I'm very supportive of that as well. I personally think of alter is really the only Equitable way to fund education so that it is truly a non-discriminatory between religion and non-religion. I don't think that's mr. Coleman will do but I do certainly support his beefing up the deductions and credits. Thanks, but our who joins us this afternoon from Columbia Heights. Good afternoon. How you doing just fine. Thanks for calling in we going to vote for and from a large number guys. You should be home in the baby boomer agent. From what I've seen he has that vote locked up on me. We look we've watched the debate so far on TV and the big thing that we see is Norm. Skip keep attacking each other for what they've done or what they haven't done instead of coming out and saying what they're going to do in Jessie just come straight forward and says he's going to do this and if somebody ask him a question, he doesn't know something about it. He doesn't beat around the bush. She just tells me I don't I don't know something know anything about it right now. I'd have to look into it before I ever made a decision on it. So just buy him being straightforward and honest about you know about talking about the issues. He's got my vote right there. Now, would you normally vote your in your co-workers there would you know, that is generally Vote or are you would you be so kind of all strong voters and I don't I don't vote any party in particular. So I'm I'm not what you call a quote staunch Republican or Democrat. I vote on the the person in the issues and I just don't like what I see from Norman skipping me Norm keeps bringing up the fact about he did this and that and say Paul. What's the say what he didn't say Paul is going to work. And Humphrey, she's I just don't for see him doing doing anything in particular were Jesse's got new ideas, and he wants to try stuff new and I think government needs to change the big thing that I like about him is his education thing where you said private education shouldn't get Public Funding its private. It should be done privately is how it should be handled the Publix in on private education. Thank you Todd for you to call. We are talking with those of you listening this hour about to what you made do what decision you've made here on it terms of who to vote for for governor. Tuesday is election day, and we have all kinds of special programs leading up to election day of first thing coming up that you should know about is that we're going to be broadcasting live tonight's debate. All three major party candidates will be getting together Humphrey Coleman in Ventura, and we will have live coverage starting at 7 tonight here on Minnesota public. And if you can't listen to night or you simply want to hear from account at the second time will be rebroadcasting that debate as part of a special pre-election program that will be broadcasting the from 1 to 4 tomorrow afternoon. So stay tuned. Meanwhile, if you've made up of this made up your mind as to who you're going to vote for give us a call. If you are still undecided. We'd like to know what it is. That would help you make that decision. Give us a call with that information to 276 thousand Twin City area number to 276 Thousand Oaks. I'd the Twin Cities 1-800. 242-282-8227 6001 800-242-2828 Peter your next you wanted a Minnesotan as a thought. He was looking Minnesota for only eight months. That doesn't matter to me so much. But I am also voting for Humphrey. Not really even though I'm a fiscal conservative. It revolves around some social. Because I really feel that he's closer to the correct point. If you were my point of view anyway on on equal rights for all people reasonable control on guns and women's rights to choose. I agree with Norm Coleman on being more open to a state support for a new stadium. But I think these other issues are far more important. So that's where I'm going and you're solid on that. I'm very solid on that. Yes. Okay. Thanks Peter. Thank you. Let's move on to a person from The Iron Range, Lloyd, Virginia, Minnesota right you that and I'll be voting for a Ventura. I'd normally vote Democratic but the this year I've just gotten totally upset with them and Skip Humphrey and I just think he's trying to live off his dad's coattails. Now, is there any chance you can change your mind about on that? It's made me a more positive that I would vote for Ventura. Any chance you might go for the Republican. This year know? You're a solid Jessie volt? All right. Thank you, sir. Appreciate the call another caller from northern Minnesota. Joanne just now Richard and Grand Rapids. Good afternoon. Have you decided who you going to vote for and why is that? well I've been a republican all my life. I used to insist that I was an independent, but that was you know, we don't really have Republicans in Minnesota their independent Republican. However, they that party completely locked me in this last two or three years. So that was number one. That's that rules out there and Really think it's very strange. I don't understand it may be somebody there can explain it to me. The main reason that I would go for Humphrey is what he did was the Judgment against the tobacco companies. Somebody could say while I was just his job. He did that against everybody's advice just about everybody saying he was foolish and it was Dumb and everything anyone that's the first time as far as I know that anybody ever really pull off something against the tobacco companies. And if I remember right, it's like a 6 billion dollar judgment what other candidate any place has done that much for the state and yet I haven't heard him say a thing about it nor have I heard The opposition try to try to denigrate that accomplishment. So I think if anybody has earned it he has and your solid I was not in favor of his father. I definitely am in favor of him. Thank you, sir. Appreciate the call. Nobody's going to explain it. What what do you want? Explain? I haven't heard a single. Richard Harbour tour or at or anyting? Yeah, actually, it's it's been mentioned quite a bit in terms of the ads on the debates and so on it comes up frequently. Okay. Thank you. Thanks a lot. Let's move on to a collar now in Minneapolis Leslie go ahead other but I'm sorry. I haven't heard more people say that the Green Party candidate how he has integrated plans for Rural Development with an energy policy. I am like their ideas about sustainable development and Grassroots democracy or throwing away your boat. I think I'm building toward a changing future. That's how I feel good and you going to stick with it when when push comes to shove from Roseville Inn, Roseville Paul Jesse Ventura, and the reason I'm going with Jesse Ventura is because I don't believe it is a wasted vote. I think if you look at some of the unscientific polls, which is Clay they all are around Minnesota. Just a couple Days Inn Rochester on scientific poll is done Jesse Ventura had 39% of the vote, and I think his supporters are going to get out there. I think when people go to the polls, they're going to vote their conscience, and they're going to say which Governor represents me better and for democracy democracy and a third-party candidate. I think Jesse Ventura is doing an outstanding job. Do you see Jesse Ventura primarily as Jesse Ventura or Jesse Ventura? Reform Party candidate just Jesse Ventura, but I think the only way you can be in even close my election-year restaurant on a party platform and I think if Jesse Ventura's what it in the office and I don't want a Rollie not support big business interests also not support socializing every tax dollar that is given to the state. You will also reform the Democratic process mean right now. We're paying a year salary to Norm Coleman and two if I'm free to go around the Stayton. Advocate voting for them. I think it was just kind of ridiculous. I think it should be a Level Playing Field for all parties. And right now that's it's not the case and the only way that's going to happen is if there is people there are people in the legislature and in state government that are from third parties. Thank you for your call is from st. Cloud as we a survey of the listeners here is to who you find about 4 or if you have made up your mind, what's what are you waiting to hear? What is it that will help you make that decision. If you'd like to join our callers on the line to 27 6802 +422-828-227-6102 for 22828. Meanwhile off the Saint Cloud we go. Good afternoon, Jeff glad you could join us. We going to vote for it. I'm going to go for Jesse Ventura and I just didn't listen to that last call. I thought it was very interesting that when I do listen to like on NPR a lot of the call-in Porsche. When we talked about debates a lot of people call in for Ventura and it's really a lot of it has been overwhelming and I think it's very interesting. I I just turned 20 today today's my birthday and in talking with my friends and a lot of people in my age a lot of them are voting for Ventura and not necessarily just because they're going for Ventura is exciting because they're getting excited about voting again in about getting involved in politics and they're listening more than paying more attention to the campaign. I don't think people that really realized how much it is energized, you know young voters, which is something is I think it's hard to get young voters really out there and involved and I think the Ventura campaign is really gotten things going because it starts with Jesse Ventura who like I knew from a young kid the pro wrestler. So that's that name recognition, but then I pay attention to his campaign and I believe really in what he says about we have it's our responsibility to change the government if it doesn't work, I mean that's that's one of the principles of our government is if it doesn't work, it's our responsibility to change it. I mean it says abolish in the actual language, but I believe in that and I don't think you know, I'm not calling for a revolution but I think really people need to realize that it's okay to change even if they're big changes if things aren't working they should change and I think I think that's a lot of Adventures about before you run there a deal sink when Tuesday, so a lot of young people that you know are actually going to go vote historically young people just having voted in any great numbers that all this goes back as far as I can recall. You think that's going to change this time. I do I do think it's going to change. I mean it's not To be overwhelming, but I think it's going to be a definite rise from the past because I mean when I go out you just don't hear a lot of young people. I mean in bars and clubs and then restaurants, you don't hear them talking politics a whole lot, you know, when they go out socially and I hear that a lot now and I think they're really energized enough or they are going to vote and you are going to see a rise and 18 to 24 year olds really getting out there and voting. Okay. Thanks for your nice for your call Jeff. Thank you very much. We are talking with those of you listening this our hoping to hear from you know, all of our lines are busy. So don't call right now you'll just get too frustrated but got the number down because we would like to get your opinion here this hour we've heard from all the experts or most of them. Anyway, we've heard from candidates. We've heard from pollsters. And this are we thought we'd set aside to hear from you part of our countdown to election day here on Minnesota Public Radio your chance. Do you know who you've decided to vote for if you haven't made up your mind yet? We're interested in finding out what it is. That would help you make that decision. And so make sure you give us a call here to seven 6001 802-422-8280 is Main Street radio coverage of rural issues is supported by the blend in Foundation committed to strengthening rural communities in expanding cultural opportunities through the Minnesota. Rural Arts initiative. One of the most interesting things about this year's election is how unsettled things appear to be usually a free sample of the count of Minnesota Iron Range to deliver a solid vote for the dfl candidate historically are Republicans haven't even bothered to campaign on the Range but there are indications that this year Minnesota Iron Range like the rest of Minnesota is truly up for grabs Minnesota public radio's Amy radio reports being a democratic politician on the Iron Range has always been complicated voters are off. Described as economic liberals, but social conservatives who don't favor legalized abortion or government restrictions on guns and Recreation incumbents like Democratic Congressman James Oberstar have had to skillfully ride the line on those issues taking stands that set them apart from Democrats outside Northeast, Minnesota Republican senator Rod grams played on that social conservatism to reach Iron Range voters in 1994. Ali resident Todd andujar who heads the group conservationists with common sense says Northeast minnesotans perceive grams opponent and wynia, as to Urban grams carry the 8th congressional district by 29 votes corporate supporters that they're always portrayed to be but that you know, there's a breed of Republicans, especially the rod grams breathes. It's actually much more populist and down-to-earth and many you know how many of the candidates Democrats are feeling these days into our says grams has impressed many iron Rangers with his advocacy on Wilderness issues including helping to reopen to motorized portage's in The Boundary Waters canoe area in the heart doesn't predict a huge shift in Party Loyalty, but he says grams pave the way so the right Republican candidate can do well in the region and he thinks there may be a philosophical gap between Labour leadership on the Range and their union members dislike for what have been a lot of traditional democratic policies up here and land-use and not just and Recreation but also in the in the areas of Mining and logging in and assemblies other areas and So I sense that there's a subtle long-term change going on at the Grassroots level has reportedly we're understanding when they're union members chose to support state. Senator Doug Johnson in the Democratic primary. He wasn't the dfl and labor endorse candidate, but he was the local sun when Johnson & Mike Freeman both lost. It wasn't clear their votes would flow naturally to skip Humphrey at the October 6th gubernatorial debate in Hibbing. Many Johnson supporters came to look over the remaining candidates Ted Senate lives in Hibbing and works for Hibbing taconite. There's a lot of people supported Doug Johnson and I think since he lost are going to probably swing their vote for Ventura. I'll haven't decided myself whether I'm going to go for a venture are home and I like almond because of his moral issues and I like mature because of he comes from a blue-collar background and I don't think you would be a career politician where you make Promises and doesn't deliver its wife Kristen added. She'll vote for Norm Coleman for his opposition to legalized abortion. There were few. Skip Humphrey supporters to be found in Hibbing that night that debate march to turning point in the Ventura campaign Statewide making Jesse Ventura much more of a viable candidate and a threat to Humphrey. Then he previously had been Democratic activist Gary cerkvenik who worked for Doug Johnson campaign predicts. Humphrey will do well in Northeast Minnesota, but he won't be surprised if Ventura gets a sizable part of the vote what percent of a nation is democratic 40% Republican and 20% follow wrestling. And you know, I think that is somewhat accurate that a lot of people are going to be voting for celebrity there going to be voting for someone who's successful in another field. We saw with Ross Perot. We stopped George Wallace and you know, we saw it and I'll go with you know, Jesse Ventura. Rangers seem to be contemplating a Republican vote as well on Sunday the Virginia paper the Mesabi Daily News Made headlines Itself by endorsing Coleman for governor. It's not the papers first Republican endorsement executive editor. Bill Hanna says, they reluctantly endorsed Arne Carlson in 1994, but he says Carlson rarely visited the range while Coleman has educated himself about the issues in the region of the contact. He has been visible up here. We talked to him a number of times and we think that he will be much more approachable for this area if he's elected as a Republican and we also think that there is some legislators and other people up here who will will be able to deal with Norm Coleman where that is not the case with Tony Carlson the two different people Hannah says they chose Coleman because of concerns from area businesses that Humphrey would not fight as hard against new regulations affecting forest recreation and Industry. The endorsement says Coleman would bring a healthier tax and job-creation climate to Northeast Minnesota as out front on some regulation issues that affect Timberland taconite and tourism in the area and Norm Coleman has spoken to those has made a commitment to the area in those areas and I will see if he's elected he backs it up. But we also said it was very clear in the industrial. That's very well as Governor. It's not clear yet. Whether these departures from the DSL tradition on the Iron Range will mean a few votes for the other parties or a major shift in election years to come staff members on the Humphrey campaign say they have done internal polling and believe Humphrey will carry the range and the 8th District. They declined to give percentages or to predict Ventura share of the vote in Duluth. I'm a near Adel Minnesota Public Radio Look at what's happening up on Minnesota Iron Range. We're interested in those. Are you listening all around the region right now who you've decided you're going to vote for for governor. One of the three major party candidates, perhaps your Spartan of the minor party candidates again. Let me give you the phone number. All of our lines are busy though. So wait just a couple of minutes to 276 thousand or outside the Twin Cities one 802-4228 to the last gubernatorial debate will be held at 7 tonight and you can hear live coverage right here on Minnesota Public Radio, especially helpful. I supposed to those of you who haven't decided who to vote for Brian. Have you made up your mind yet? I'm going to be bowling for Jesse Ventura y. Well. It's mostly a rather than the issues. I think it's an issue the character of the of the people running. I mean norm and the and then skip bolt have obviously the holding interests to the parties that they come from in this Orders at 2 to put them where they are now and just really strikes me as somebody who just absolutely speaks his mind and this carries his own ideas into into the campaign. I think that's awesome because down the line if a persuasive argument could be made to him to maybe change his view on something. There's not a lot of party baggage that he's going to be carrying along with that. You really get the impression that he's making decisions on the issues based on you know, they have their merits that the come to him and his own the intellectual standpoint on them. Are you going to stick with us about do you think or when come Tuesday maybe go at one of the regular parties? All right. Thanks for call. Thank you. Next caller is from Inver Grove Heights ball. Thanks for checking in today. I have you made up your mind yet who you going to vote for? And wife fresh why I like his policies on investment investment in affordable housing and kids and education and I'm concerned that mr. Coleman if you would get it would be interesting in corporate profits and stadiums and God knows what else but I don't think he'd be saving us any money. He might be giving away some tax dollars. But yeah, you know his record in St. Paul a lot of what's been done has been done with the public dollar either city or state and it's going to come come due soon any I thought to Jesse Ventura and tells more to my liking I don't think I missed Adventure has proved himself. It's great to speak to the issues the way he does but Brooklyn Park doesn't doesn't qualify as any better qualifications anything else. I don't think our Minnesota Alice. Thanks for joining us. Decided after supporting Mike Freeman and then I went to Ventura and I am now at a solid Humphrey backer because I believe he will work to take the government out of our private lives and off our backs and he will he is more of a conservative than I feel did Jesse and Coleman would be because they weren't he is concerned in preventing problems and working in the early stages in instead of building more prisons. Humphrey is coming that we have more Family Planning clinics in work in the area prevention because parenting is the most important profession in the world and we have to stop the method the compulsory pregnancies. It's being you is now and Humphrey will be a staunch supporter to help prevent. LSU changed her mind a couple of times any chance that you might change yet again before election day on Tuesday. I feel back in the days when it when Humphrey when Truman was running and I asked my dad who he was going to vote for and he said well, he didn't really like Truman because he thought the Pendergast gang was you know, he was had to do something with them and that he didn't like doing it all and it was the better of two evils in this was back in the 48 election and I feel right. Now we're at the point that we have to look at the broad spectrum of the base of the the candidates and I feel Humphrey will do more for the people and he will not neglect business. Alright, let's move on to Minneapolis. Jephthah is on the line. I Jeff. I'm sorry. I let see Jim going to be voting for 10 Pentel on the green party because I agree with his positions in this platform on sustainable economic development in the long-term and the other point, which I think you asked the other caller about is that both thrown away is what I think is important is to get the green party list of is a major parties that they can be on the same platform with Democrats Republicans, and I would rather have let me ask you this gym before you run. Let's say and I don't know there's no reason to believe this going to happen. But let's say that they come Monday late Monday word filters out that Humphrey and Coleman are virtually tied and eventually a very very close. Will you stick with your Camp Intel volador? Will you decide that you need to weigh in with one of the one of the leaders know? I think that's what's really important to have your vote count and one vote in a a big math may not have as much weight is added to the third-party getting their status refill voting for Jesse Ventura just because I think it's time to get a third party reform candidate in the office. And the, that I want to make you regards to the qualifications issue is so many of the idols and heroes that we have in our in our politics of Washington Jefferson Lincoln. We're not career. Politicians in Washington in particular was a war hero celebrity status and these people were improving they didn't have that kind of a background but the people elected them cuz they just listen and they had their own ideas and they weren't swayed by their parties is elected. It's on the job training time. He doesn't know enough. I'm all for that. I'd rather have a I'd rather have a governor who made mistakes and what admit to it then somebody who is going to stay with his party. Thanks, Jeff. Appreciate it in Minneapolis. Thanks for calling in July. Have you decided who you're going to vote for you? I'm not voting for Norm Coleman. The reason is clearly around his recommend civil rights and his choice to repeal via. I think it's going to go with Okay. Any chance you might swing to Ventura record is a lot better than what he would do in this situation and he crimes with inflation. Of course, as you know in the wake of Matthew Shepard's death in a lot of other people for him, but likely it be skip Humphrey other policies that I'm probably not in full agreement with but he is probably the best of the three by fire. Okay. Thanks. Thank you off. We going out to Northern Minnesota again where Glenn joins us from Virginia that afternoon Glen to at 1 call traditional Democrat votes or what? How do you usually vote Republican? Republicans one of the five Republican in the general election Republican Democrat Party, but you know, I think I heard a lot of comments about his Celebrity Status which probably give them good name recognition, but that the same token. I'm not a wrestling fan. So that isn't the reason I'm voting for him because he's an ex wrestler wrestler. The thing is is that I think that he's bringing some fresh ideas. He's not a career politician, which I think his belief is to downsize government to spend less of the tax dollars supporting government and The tax dollars to the individuals to better their life and their families life. Thanks when we are here on Minnesota Public Radio and what we're doing this hour is hearing from those of you who listen to the program. We've heard from so many of the experts and the analysts and the candidates in the rastin one group that we haven't heard from you added any lengths to were those those who listen man those of you who presumably will be voting on Tuesday. We thought it'd be interesting today just four days before the election to find out who you've decided to vote for if you haven't made up your decision. I made up your mind yet what it is that will help you make that decision to 276 thousand or one 800-242-2828. That's the number to call and again a reminder. We will have live coverage of the last debate in the campaign for governor. That's at 7 tonight here on Minnesota Public Radio Live. Coverage this is the last face-to-face debate among the candidates. Of course, they'll be out and about all weekend and we'll have special pre-election coverage here on Minnesota Public Radio tomorrow Saturday afternoon starting at 1 again will be back on the air at 7 Sunday evening with another pre-election special and then of course Monday lots of coverage Tuesday will be on the air Tuesday evening with the all the election night coverage that to let you come to expect from Minnesota Public Radio results analysis will hear from the planet. So on so forth, so lots of special programs coming up the first one tonight at 7 live coverage of that. Gubernatorial debate the last one of the campaign Derek is on the line and Derek. Have you decided who you going to vote for? I have physical conservative and usually vote Republican voting Friday Carlson, but this year I'm going to go to skip Humphrey why I feel like he's the only candidate we can trust to do do what he says he's going to do you guys plan to cut taxes? He's going to improve our education system in and he's laid it out in a plan. The other candidates just seemed to talk and and the idea of Coleman and Ventura to allow a little more loaded concealed weapons on a street. I think it's just crazy solid in your opinion cuz I tend to vote Republican, but it really just seems to make sense to me to go to the pain free. All right. Thanks for call. Let's move on to a regular Joe Angeles from Minneapolis High wreck about 4. I'm waiting for Jesse Ventura. Well, I think that both of the other major parties they are the Republicans or the Democrats are just a little too set in their ways to give it to some consideration the new Solutions and Jesse certainly told us he's willing to at least take a look at them things rather than just dismissing them up. Right and I think that they're getting some new ideas and the government would would be a nice refreshing change and maybe we'll come up with something to be useful for us. What party you do? You usually support. Oh, I guess if I have to I usually little more Republican. Do you usually bolitar would you like I always vote always thanks Rick IQ off we go to Southwestern Minnesota from Slayton Holly High so we can't break any and I was real disappointed was Kim pain-free when he didn't come on our caucus decision. And so he lost my vote right there in Cullman. That just doesn't impress me. So you're basically a Democrat going to switch over to Jesse Ventura this time you're going to do that or when push comes to shove you find out that the republican-democrat race is neck-and-neck aren't going to go back and vote Democrat. Alternative would be building call. Well, I guess you could write him an I was going to say is not on the ballot, but you could ride him in the Pine River Jason High. Jason you there? Yes. I am leaving about 4. I'm the vote for Jesse Ventura why I think that we really have the opportunity in this election to show our dissatisfaction with the stagnation that is inherited traditional two party system. Explain. Well, I think that Jesse has a real opportunity to show the American people and especially the people in Minnesota Third Party politics a third party or a multi-party system is very effective and it can be very refreshing and it's time for change very little happens in a two-party system and it doesn't do justice to the diversity of political views out there. We need more than just two parties. Who would you vote for for the green party back to Minneapolis we go where I not see Jean High who you going to vote for? We've heard from a lot of young people here that younger people wherefore Jesse Ventura, but I'd like to say on a 50 year old housewife husband the computer professional and frankly. We've come to the decision that I vote for Coleman or Humphrey 4 years from now nothing will have changed. Will still be paying too much taxes are program still won't be working. I know when when if not now when are we going to try and change things and I'd like to say that everyone who thinks they like to vote for Jesse Ventura could get out and vote because despite the whole I think he really has a chance a chance to bring maybe a fresh perspective. You're planning to vote. I assume any chance you'll change your mind. Let's go to Alexandria Elaine. Thank you for calling and who might you be voting for? Looks like somebody sounds like somebody's at your door. Okay. I'm so why I like Humphrey for almost every issue that's been talked about education guns. He's pro-choice the farming shoe the stadium almost done every issue. I think that the Humphrey has a better idea then then Coleman or Ventura. So your salad at do you usually vote Democrat? I do. Okay. Thanks Elaine. Bye. Bye. Bye back to Minneapolis Chris. Have you decided we going to vote for 7 at the risk of sounding a little quixotic. I just want to answer your inevitable question by saying no, I'm not going to change my mind at the last minute and put it in every election since 78 when I turned 18, and I'm voting for Ken Pentel in the green party. And although I wouldn't mind seeing Jesse Ventura that get elected just to upset the applecart a little bit. I think God Norm Coleman represents taken to its logical extension. What a lot of the Democrats on the national scene have been doing anyway, and that's moving toward the center and even tried the right. I think that they've the politics have moved in that direction and and and I think that the right has really kind of dictated that so and I feel that the Democrats have forsaken the ideals on which the party was founded in his traditionally unsupported. I think the greens are more aligned better aligned with those ideals sustainability. And I also think they have an international party affiliation. Although it's not an official affiliation more of a philosophical Affinity with the greens and Germany where they just done you no gain to the majority. I believe her at least I gained seats in the bundestag. Right and I think with the Trans nationalization of of capital and the ability of Corporations to move easily across the International boundaries that there needs to be a party of the people that can provide a counterweight to that the crisis International boundaries and I think Russ we got to run. Yeah, okay, but don't have time to ask that inevitable. Well, we are unfortunately out at I'm sure like to thank all of you who joined us this our those have you tried to call in with your preferences again a reminder. This is just the start of a whole well a countdown to election day basically live coverage of the big gubernatorial debate the last debate of a campaign that starts at 7 tonight or live coverage if you miss it will be re broadcasting it as part of a special program.
