August 14, 2003 - The Vikings are in training camp, the Twins are in a pennant race, and the Wild and Timberwolves are bullish on their upcoming seasons. But in a languid economy, some business people have wondered if the Twin Cities can financially support all four of its major pro sports teams. The Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce put that issue before a panel of top executives from each of those teams yesterday (Wed). August 13, 2003 - You may be a dog-lover, but your passion can't compare to Karen Elvin's. Elvin's family has been raising one particular breed since 1943, the Norwegian Elkhound, known in its native country as the elg-hund. She helped write the breed standard for the American Kennel Club, published a book about the thick-coated canines and serves as the secretary of the Norwegian Elkhound Association of Minnesota. In this week's edition of our series, The Enthusiasts, Minnesota Public Radio's Stephanie Curtis visited Karen Elvin and her four-legged brood which includes AKC champion Julie and four very vocal puppies, at her home in Marine-on-Saint-Croix.
August 8, 2003 - The people in the cars whizzing over the Twin Cities' Mississippi River bridges this morning may not realize that they're passing over a National Park site. But they are. The Mississippi National River and Recreation Area consists of seventy-two miles of the Father of Waters and a host of parks, trails, and historic sites along the riverbanks in the Twin Cities area. This weekend, the National Park Service celebrates the opening of a visitor center in downtown Saint Paul to help acquaint people with the attractions along the National River. June 6, 2003 - One of Saint Paul's longest-running neighborhood disputes moved back onto the front burner today (Fri) when Mayor Randy Kelly revealed his short-term plans for Ayd Mill Road. The road was opened to traffic from Interstate 35-E last summer in what Kelly described as a one year experiment. The Wild's four to two victory over the Canucks in Vancouver last night completed Minnesota's second straight come from behind win of a Stanley Cup playoff series. On the brink of elimination, the Wild beat Vancouver three times in a row -- just as they did in their first round series with Colorado. It's an unprecedented feat in hockey and it means the Wild will now host Anaheim tomorrow (Sat) in the start of the Western Conference Finals.
