After documentary, MPR's Stephen Smith, who produced piece, will be in the studio to answer listener questions, along with correspondent Michael Montgomery, who is in Sarajevo and contributes via phone.
September 13, 1996 - All Things Considered presents the American RadioWorks documentary “Face of Mercy, Face of Hate,” which investigates the death of Predrag Bundalo, a Bosian-Serb friend of correspondent.
August 29, 1996 - Midday presents Walter Mondale, former vice president and U.S. ambassador to Japan, speaking at Minnesota Meeting held at Marriott Hotel in downtown Minneapolis. Mondale’s address focuses on America’s relationship with Japan and Asia as a whole. After speech, Mondale answers questions from the audience.
August 26, 1996 - MPR’s John Rabe visits Minnesota autor Pete Hautman at the Minneosta State Fair to talk about pigs and his book, “Mortal Nuts.” Hautman shares how his book owes much to the Fair experience.
August 23, 1996 - MPR's John Bischoff reports on a security force of 350 people canvassing the Minnesota State Fairgrounds, prepared to quell any disturbance and maintain...if not peace, at least a semblance of public order.
August 22, 1996 - MPR’s Laura McCallum reports on the changing dynamics of the Minnesota State Fair, with more metro-centric visitors. The State Fair dates back to 1855, before Minnesota was a state, when organizers wanted to promote agriculture to entice people to settle in the area. Fair officials insist the focus on agriculture hasn't changed, although the presentation has.
August 15, 1996 - Mainstreet Radio’s Catherine Winter reports on Camp Knutson, a camp near Brainerd created to help people learn to live with HIV or AIDS within their families. Organizers say they believe it's the first time a summer camp has been set up for whole families affected by HIV and AIDS.
August 14, 1996 - MPR’s Laura McCallum reports from Stearns County, the state's biggest dairy county and home to more feedlots than any other county. Stearns is now considering a county feedlot permitting process. It's a move the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency supports because of the high number of Stearns County feedlots without state permits and pollution concerns.
August 13, 1996 - Mainstreet Radio’s Leif Enger reports that a state park campground built among Indian burial mounds is being moved and reopened in a new location. Almost immediately after the campground at Mille Lacs Kathio State Park was constructed in the 1960s, it was learned the campsites were situated in a Mdewakanton Dakota cemetery dating back to the 1600s. Years later, efforts to right a wrong are being completed as the campground is relocated off the Native sacred ground.
