December 10, 2003 - MPR’s Cathy Wurzer interviews Tony Bouza, former Minneapolis police chief, on his thoughts about the hiring of a new police chief. According to Mayor Rybak's PR people, the mayor will release names of finalists for the job of police chief in Minneapolis. They anticipate six or seven finalists. Tony Bouza discusses the process, including benefits of hiring outside the department. He also speaks of hiring a black or female police chief.
April 18, 2002 - MPR’s Cathy Wurzer interviews Tony Bouza, former Minneapolis Police Chief, about possible leadership change in Minneapolis Police department. Last night, Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak confirmed that he has asked Police Chief Robert Olson to resign. Rybak says he asked the chief to step down two weeks ago in his words "for the good of the community." Olson has not commented on those reports. Fifth Precinct Inspector Lucy Gerold is reportedly being considered for the job of interim chief.

Reports include comments from David Pearce Demers, professor of Journalism at University of Wisconsin-River Falls; Tony Bouza, Minneapolis police chief; and Matthew Little, president of Minneapolis NAACP.

November 29, 1989 - In remarks before an audience at the University of Wisconsin at River Falls, gaming commissioner Tony Boza referred to Native Americans as “totally blasted and destroyed people.” The remarks brought complaints of racism from the Minneapolis Urban Coalition. After meeting with the governor and human rights commissioner, Boza apologized for any misinterpretation of his remarks, saying he went to River Falls to fight racism in regrets any injury to Black or Native Americans stemming from his words.

November 7, 1986 - MPR’s Bill Catlin reports on Community United Against Violence, a group formed to draw attention to the recent string of 11 gay murders in the Twin Cities. The group will be organizing activity to heighten awareness of violence, especially violence against homosexuals. Yesterday's announcement comes at a time of heightened tension between some leaders of the gay community and police. There have been complaints that the police aren't doing enough to solve unsolved gay murder cases.
