October 8, 2001 - As the state workers strike enters its second week, developmentally disabled patients in state-run treatment homes have National Guard troops as replacements for their normal care providers. As Minnesota Public Radio's Rob Schmitz reports, many striking employees of these homes feel they've been placed in a difficult position.
September 21, 2001 - Plans to build an Islamic worship center have been put on hold because some residents in Haverhill (Have-ur-hill) Township, on Rochester's northeastern border are now opposed. Minnesota Public Radio's Rob Schmitz reports. Residents of Haverhill Township forced their board to postpone a vote on whether to let plans for a new Mosque, proceed. Board members had previously granted the Rochester Islamic Center a conditional use permit, but, according to Township Board supervisor Tony Ebert, a group of neighbors filed a petition demanding information on the center's potential for environmental impact. Ebert thinks the petition was nothing more than a stall tactic for people who are reluctanct to accept a new faith into their community.
September 10, 2001 - In 1986, the city of La Crosse was involved in a lawsuit that threatened the removal of a Ten Commandments monument in a public park. The city prevailed and the monument remained, but fifteen years later the controversey has returned, spurred by similar cases across the nation. Currently there are nine legal cases challenging Ten Commandments monuments across the country.
