July 2, 1998 - Midday presents a broadcast of the Minnesota Citizens Forum gubernatorial debate held within state office building at State Capitol. The six DFL candidates, Skip Humphrey III, Doug Johnson, Mark Dayton, Mike Freeman, Ted Mondale, John Marty, and Independent candidate, Jesse Ventura, attended. (Republican Norm Coleman did not accept invitation) Candidates spoke and answered questions from four groups of citizen panelists gathered throughout the state. Lori Sturdevant, of the Star Tribune, moderated debate.
June 16, 1998 - Mike Freeman, the DFL-endorsed gubernatorial candidate, joined program from MPR Collegeville/St Cloud bureau for a statewide call-in program on the issues in the gubernatorial campaign. Topics included gun laws, education, urban challenges, and environment.
May 20, 1998 - Steve Young, a former dean of the Hamline University law school says it's unethical for the Robins Kaplan Miller & Ciresi Law Firm to charge $560 Million dollars for its work on the state's recently-settled tobacco lawsuit. Young filed a complaint with the Lawyers' Professional Responsibility Board, alleging that the size of the fee violates professional rules.
April 20, 1998 - U.S. Attorney David Lillehaug discusses his ideas to reduce crime in the highest-crime Minneapolis neighborhoods, including the Phillips neighborhood. Lillehaug also answers listener questions.
July 27, 1997 - MPR’s Laura McCallum reports outside All God’s Children’s Metropolitan Church, where picketers from Fred Phelps anti-gay group were met by hundreds of gay rights supporters. Attenddees at service included four of the DFL gubernatorial candidates.
July 18, 1997 - Midday features a special report on teen curfews, with a follow up discussion with guests Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman in the St. Paul studios; and in MPR's Collegeville bureau, Sherry Smolik, coordinator of the St. Cloud Area Violence Prevention Council. The guests also answer listener call-in questions.
October 26, 1994 - MPR’s Tom Fudge reports on the arrest of Vice Lord leader Sharif Willis and Vincent Edward Fields on a robbery and hostage incident. Mike Freeman, Hennepin County attorney; Jerry McAfee, member of United for Peace; and Tom Helgeson, The City, Inc. spokesperson spoke on arrest and charges. Keith Ellison, Willis’s attorney, had no comment.
May 17, 1994 - Two DFL candidates seeking party endorsement for Minnesota Governor visit Midday to pitch their candidacies. Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman and State Senator John Marty debate topics of education, welfare, DFL endorsement, and community investment. The two also answer listener questions.
