February 22, 2005 - MPR’s Mike Edgerly and Sasha Aslanian present an American RadioWorks documentary, titled “Toxic Traces.” The documentary raises questions about who is responsible for the safety of the public and the environment, and about whether state agencies are doing enough to protect citizens from toxic chemicals.
November 20, 2003 - Governor Pawlenty appeared before the Senate Commerce Committee at the request of committee Chair, John McCain of Arizona. Senator McCain and others on the committee gave the governor and his prescription drug plan a warm welcome. Max Cacas of Minnesota Public Radio's Capitol Hill bureau reports.
August 13, 2003 - The latest unemployment statistics show more Minnesotans out of work than at any time in 18 years. The unemployment rate for July reached a level only seen once in the past decade. Minnesota Public Radio's Jeff Horwich reports.
July 24, 2003 - China and the U.S. are likely to hold talks with North Korea on its nuclear program in early September, but Pyongyang must agree to immediately include Japan and South Korea for the negotiations to proceed, Kyodo news agency reported on Thursday. In this weeks edition of our series, The Enthusiasts, Minnesota Public Radio's Steve Nelson pays a visit to Doug Rathke's farm near Hutchinson and meets Rathke, his sheep, and his electric clippers in a big white sheering barn.
July 4, 2003 - A group of midwest farmers has filed a class action lawsuit over the sale of their corn-processing plant to the agribusiness giant Archer Daniels Midland. The lawsuit claims ADM paid the corn plant's CEO and other executives millions of dollars in return for a deal that short-changed farmers. Minnesota Public Radio's Mary Losure reports.
May 9, 2003 - MPR’s Mike Edgerly interviews Minneapolis poet Betsy Brown about her book, "Year of Morphines," which preserves in verse her memory of two women who didn't survive breast cancer; her mother and sister. Brown reads from book.
September 26, 2002 - The Mainstreet Radio documentary “An Uncivil War” examines The US-Dakota War of 1862, a war fought in the Minnesota River valley back in 1862 that still leaves scars today. On one side were the Dakota Indians. On the other, settlers and the U.S. government. Hundreds of people died on both sides of the five-week long war. It lead to the largest mass execution in U.S. history, when 38 Dakota were hanged in Mankato.
