October 5, 2009 - David Allen Sibley on tree and bird identification. The acclaimed wildlife artist and best-selling author of "The Sibley Guide to Birds" is out with his latest book, "The Sibley Guide to Trees." Many consider David Sibley to be the "new John James Audubon."
August 26, 2009 - Midday presents the documentary “Divorced Kid: Stories from the 1970's divorce revolution.” MPR’s Sasha Aslanian reports on the long-term impact of the divorce explosion in U.S. during the 1970’s.
July 31, 2009 - Teddy Roosevelt: A "Wilderness Warrior".Douglas Brinkley, author of "The Wilderness Warrior: Theodore Roosevelt and the Crusade for America" joins Midday to discuss the first naturalist president, and what impact his appreciation for nature still has today.
August 1, 2008 - A Midday MPR Special coverage program of memorial service, one year after I-35W bridge collapse. From the Basilica of St. Mary in downtown Minneapolis, Tim Pawlenty, governor of Minnesota; R. T. Rybak, mayor of Minneapolis; Sally Dyck, United Methodist Church Bishop and president of the Minnesota Council of Churches; and Father John Bauer, co-pastor of Basilica of St. Mary speak in observance of the one-year anniversary of the I-35W bridge collapse. Hour long service also includes songs, prayers and reflection.
July 30, 2008 - Midday remembers Harrison Bud Tordoff, who died last week, with a special rebroadcast from MPR's "Voices of Minnesota" series. Tordoff was known as the man who saved the peregrine falcons in Minnesota. Before becoming an acclaimed ornithologist, Harrison Tordoff was a decorated fighter pilot during World War II. Also part of this series is an interview with Minnesota nature photographer Jim Brandenburg.
March 25, 2008 - When Minnesota author Jon Hassler died last week at 74, colleagues of his remarked on the impact of his work, both as a writer and a teacher. Midday remembers Hassler in his own words, as we rebroadcast an interview he did with MPR in 1999. We also talk with two of Hassler's longtime friends. October 23, 2006 - Author Edna O'Brien left Ireland years ago, as a young woman but her first novel about two girls trying to escape life in the convent made her notorious in her homeland. Tonight O'Brien appears at the Fitzgerald Theater for Talking Volumes to discuss her long career and her newest book: "The Light of Evening" a story that reveals how unresolved her feelings still are about how and where she grew up.
October 13, 2006 - Last year Minnesota took in more immigrants than in any of the past 25 years. Many of them are Muslims from countries including Somalia. The state's 5th District, which includes Minneapolis, is home to many of these new arrivals. And it's here where Muslims are just beginning to speak with their newfound political voice. Minnesota public Radio's Andrew Haeg reports from Minneapolis.
