January 7, 2000 - St. Paul school officials are seeking public input on plans to end social promotion in the district. Last night, Superintendent Pat Harvey and school board members outlined the plan during a forum at Central High School. Minnesota Public Radio's Michael Khoo reports. NARRATION: During the presentation, Superintendent Harvey made it clear she believes social promotion produces more harm than good. Harvey said students should advance to higher grade levels only after meeting requirements.
December 23, 1999 - Roughly 200 demonstrators turned out for yesterday's St. Paul City Council meeting to register their complaints about a plan to link Ayd Mill Road with Interstates 35-E and 94 in southwestern St. Paul. The Council took no action on the matter, but supporters of the proposal say it will relieve congestion on residential streets. Opponents say it will only encourage MORE traffic.

November 22, 1999 - The academic misconduct scandal in the University of Minnesota's men's basketball program could ultimately cost more than $5-million -- not to mention the jobs of top university administrators. A report issued late last week confirmed widespread fraud in the program. Most observers approve of university president Mark Yudof's job confronting the scandal -- but some are raising questions.
November 9, 1999 - Plans to build a new Minnesota Twins ballpark in downtown St. Paul collapsed last week when capital city voters overwhelmingly rejected the idea. Rather than settle the issue, however, the ballot verdict raises questions about the future of the Twins. Many opponents of publically-subsidized sports facilities argue the team should follow the lead of the San Francisco Giants -- and build a new ballpark with private money.
November 3, 1999 - MPR’s Michael Khoo reports that St. Paul residents overwhelmingly rejected a sales tax increase to pay for a new Minnesota Twins ballpark in the city's downtown. After a summer of sometimes contentious debate, voters defeated the proposal 58% to 42%.
