December 18, 1995 - Governor Carlson has told the Star Tribune newspaper he feels left out of the decision-making at the University of Minnesota. He says the University should act more as a partner of state government, and he says he thinks he should have some influence over the choice of a new University president. The current president, Nils Hasselmo, responded to those remarks today, and the FM News Station's martin Kaste was there. Martin, did Carlson's remarks upset Hasselmo? Not so you'd notice. Nils Hasselmo is a diplomat, and he took pains not to treat the Governor's comments as hostile toward him or toward the University. But he was pretty clear that he does NOT think the governor and the state should have more influence over the University.
