That's the question before the Minnesota Board of Education later this afternoon, when it considers a request from Native American leaders NOT to be included in the state's new school desegregation rule. The request is an attempt to safe-guard majority-Indian schools.
May 9, 1996 - Minneapolis school officials are defending the safety of their school buses, following the second fatal accident in as many months. Yesterday, north Minneapolis 8th-grader Charles E. Johnson Jr. died when he leaned out a school bus window and struck his head against a tree.
April 19, 1996 - The state Supreme Court today made it tougher for Minnesotans to sue alleged sex abusers for cases of abuse that are more than a few years old.
March 14, 1996 - The state auditor says the Twin Cities' Transit Police Department has regularly broken rules to hide thousands of dollars worth of unauthorized spending.
March 12, 1996 - A group of south-Minneapolis legislators say their colleagues are too eager to adopt the conclusions of the Dual-Track Airport Study, which recommends against building a new Twin Cities international airport in Dakota County. The group says adopting the recommendations now would cheat the public of the chance to participate in the airport decision.
