July 29, 1996 - Minnesota's two U.S. Senators firmly anchor the far right and left of the political spectrum. Liberal Paul Wellstone and conservative Rod Grams disagree on almost everything. More often than not, they cancel out each other's votes. Wellstone's first term is ending, and he's fighting to keep his senate seat. Grams is about a third of the way through his first term. It's because many were servely damaged during the harsh weather last winter. May 28, 1996 - A decison by the United States Supreme court today requires the tobacco industry to turn over organized indices of internal documents to states suing tobacco companies to recover medicad costs for sick smokers. It's part of a lawsuit FILED BY Minnesota. Attorneys working on the SUIT for the states, say having a guide will help THEM find what they need amoung the millions of documents. The tobacco industry says the decision is tantamount to requiring THEM to share internal legal documents with the opposing side.
