August 23, 2002 - Two Minnesota money-transfer businesses that the federal government shut down last November are expected to have their assets restored, and be removed from a United Nations sanctions list of suspected terrorists. Federal agents raided Aaran Money Wire Service and Global Services International last November because the Bush administration alleged they were aiding Osama bin Laden's terrorist network. Federal officials now say there's no evidence to connect them to Al-Qaeda. The Treasury Department has made a formal request to the United Nations Security Council to delist the two businesses and one of the business owners. Minnesota Public Radio's Marisa Helms reports.
August 21, 2002 - MPR’s Marissa Helms reports that Northeast Minneapolis neighborhood is home to a growing international community. Though the area grew by just one percent over the past 10 years, U.S. census figures show a significant quadrupling of immigrant populations.
August 19, 2002 - Major League Baseball players have set a tentative strike date for the end of month as the 2002 MLB season enters its final weeks. The key issue is a desire by owners to impose a luxury tax on high-payroll teams. The union thinks taking away too much money from the high-spending teams would slow salary increases. Many Minnesota Twins fans say they're worried a strike could spell the end of the team.
August 13, 2002 - Last spring, the University of Minnesota Press was the center of a storm of protest over the publication of a book on sex education. Some representatives of the local media admit deadline pressures at the time kept them from in-depth coverage of Judith Levine's controversial book "Harmful to Minors: The Perils of Protecting Children from Sex." Levine sat down with with reporters and the public last night Helms reports.
July 19, 2002 - This is Mark Yudof's last day (Fri) on the job as president of the University of Minnesota. He's leaving tomorrow at a conference of Chinese research institutions. In early August he starts his new job as Chancellor of the University of Texas system. Yudof supporters say in his five years at the university he made some major changes to the look and reputation of the school, and healed some rocky relationships. But Yudof's tenure has also been marked by the ongoing problems in the athletics department, rising tuition and a drop in state financial support. Minnesota Public Radio's Marisa Helms reports.

June 4, 2002 - Later this month the St. Paul City Council is expected to decide which city street to re-name after civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. An advisory committee is considering eight streets for the name change, and will make a recommendation to the council by June 12th. The committee held a public hearing last night
