February 9, 1998 - At this moment thousands of flesh-eating bugs are munching away on dozens of animal parts, in the basement of a neat-looking brick home in a quiet St.Paul neighborhood. The offerings come from taxidermists, veterinarians and museums. In today's odd jobs segment Kathleen Hallinan introduces you to a beetle rancher.
February 3, 1998 - Authorities have charged a Grand Rapids High School student with making terroristic threats. Eighteen-year-old Derrick Marttila faces three felony counts. Police says several students told investigators Marttila repeatedly threatened to bomb the school and shoot students whose religious beliefs differ from his own. Police dispatcher Amy Olson says officers started investigating the threats before the Littleton, Colorado school shooting. She says police arrested the teen when other students became increasignly afraid Marttila would act on his threats: police are still investigating. They believe the suspect was acting alone in his threats.
September 30, 1997 - EVERY YEAR THOUSANDS OF MINNESOTA'S WILDFLOWERS ARE TURNED INTO LANDFILL DURING DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS AND ROAD CONSTRUCTION. NO ONE KEEPS TRACK OF THE LOST PLANTS WHICH OFTEN INCLUDE MEMBERS OF THE HALF-DOZEN SPECIES OF PROTECTED WILDFLOWERS...LIKE ORCHIDS AND LILIES. PEOPLE WHO WANT TO RESCUE THE PLANTS MUST RECEIVE PERMISSION FROM THE LANDOWNER AND SECURE A PERMIT FROM THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE. THIS SALVAGE HAS PROVOKED A QUIET DEBATE OVER WHETHER THESE PLANTS SHOULD BE RELOCATED. MINNESOTA PUBLIC RADIO'S KATHLEEN HALLINAN REPORTS. (SOUND OF PULLING/BRAD...) BRAD MRZLAK IS PULLING NATIVE CALLALILIES AND STASHING THEM IN A PLASTIC TRAY. HE GENTLY GRABS THE PLANTS AT THE BASE AND EASES THEIR ROOTS TO THE SURFACE. HE'S STANDING IN A PEAT BOG--WITH WATER MIDWAY UP HIS SHINS.

The "Courage Alpine Ski Program" has changed the lives of many disabled people who used to dread winter.
