November 21, 2000 - Minnesota's State Canvassing Board will meet later this morning to certify results of this month's election. After the results are certified, Minnesota's second congressional district may be in for a recount. Four-term Democratic Congressman David Minge says he'll seek a recount because he lost to Republican Mark Kennedy by only 150 votes. Alana Christenson, manager of the recount, discusses this effort.
November 14, 2000 - Many Serbians are now hearing the first detailed account of the atrocities committed by the government's security forces against ethnic Albanians in Kosovo. A documentary produced by two M-P-R journalists detailing the war crimes aired on an independent radio station in Belgrade yesterday. American Radioworks correspondents Stephen Smith and Michael Montgomery spent 10 months investigating a mass killing in an ethnic Albanian village called Cuske (CHOOSH-kuh). Their documentary already aired in the United States on National Public Radio, but the Serbian government had censored such reports. Yesterday, Serbians heard a translated version of the documentary, which includes testimony from Serb fighters and traces the chain of authority for the killings to senior generals under former President Slobodan Milosevic. Michael Montgomery co-produced the documentary. He is in Serbia on his way back to Kosovo. He says the airing of the documentary was an indication of how things have changed in Serbia.

October 26, 2000 - School leaders throughout Minnesota are clamoring for changes in the way teachers are paid. A handful of school districts have already dumped the system of automatic raises based on solely on years of service and training. Members of the Minnesota Rural Education Association discussed some of the alternatives Wednesday night at a conference in Alexandria. Minnesota Public Radio's Tim Pugmire reports.
October 26, 2000 - Governor Jesse Ventura spent a final day in Mexico City meeting with President-elect Vicente (vee-CEN-tay) Fox. Later he went to a Hospital to see how technology developed by Twin Cities-based Medtronic is helping victims of epilepsy and Parkinson's disease. Today Ventura's six day trade mission to Mexico is in the city of Guadalajara. Minnesota Public Radio's Andrew Haeg is travelling with the governor. He has this report.
October 26, 2000 - The issue of racial profiling could be on the 2001 legislative agenda. A statewide committee is calling for a two-year study to determine whether officers pull over drivers because of their race. Although some Minnesota police departments are already recording the race of the people they pull over, they are currently not required to do so. Republican Rich Stanek is a state representative and Minneapolis police officer. He was on the committee formed to look at racial profiling, and he's still deciding whether to go along with the committee's suggestion that the state require a study.
