August 7, 2001 - Nearly 17 thousand Excel Energy customers in the metro area are without power this morning. Heavy demand caused by the hot weather has resulted in scattered power outages in several areas of the Twin Cities in the past week, leaving people to swelter in the record heat. Ed Legge is a spokesman for Xcel Energy.
August 7, 2001 - The demand caused by the hot and sticky weather and problems like Friday's fire at the Prairie Island Nuclear Power Plant means Xcel needs to buy additional from other places. August 3, 2001 - The US Senate is in the midst of a debate over farm policy. One of the most contentious issues is whether to continue the Northeast Dairy Compact in New England and whether similar compacts should be allowed in other parts of the country. A compact creates a competitive advantage for milk producers within a region and makes it virtually impossible for an outside producer to sell milk in that area. Bill Dropick is a dairy farmer in Nelson, Minnesota and the Vice-President of the Minnesota Milk Producers Association. He's been fighting against the Northeast Dairy Compact for over a decade and he joins us now.
August 3, 2001 - There will be a public visitation for Korey Stringer today from 4 to 6 today at Washburn-McReavy Chapel in Edina. Yesterday, the Minnesota Vikings returned to practice, just a day after Stringer died from complications from heat stroke. The team spent a little over an hour on the field at their training camp in Mankato. Meanwhile, the Vikings altered their schedule over the next few days so players, friends, and coaches could remember the Pro-Bowl lineman at ceremonies in the Twin Cities and in his hometown of Warren, Ohio.
