September 15, 2003 - In his debut story collection, "You Are Not a Stranger Here," Adam Haslett wrote the stories during four yearshe spent studying law. He says writing about people who struggle with life raised for him the issue of how society and the medical profession treat mental illess.
September 10, 2003 - Tomorrow is the second anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks on the United States. Commemorations, remembrances and vigils will be held around the country. But expectations are that, two years after the tragedy, Americans will be less observant of the day than they were last year ---at least in terms of participation in public events. In the Twin Cities, for example, more than 60 memorials and religious services took place on last year's anniversary. This year, fewer than a dozen are planned. Tom Dondlinger of St. Paul, however, is NOT one of those who is of a mind to forget or to downplay September 11th. Almost single-handily, he organized one of this Thursday's major observances. The event will held at Midway Stadium in Saint Paul and is expected to draw 6000 Minnesotans. Dondlinger says he's never headed up anything of this magnitude before.
