October 21, 2002 - Minnesota regulators say Qwest, the state's largest phone company, is guilty of sweetheart deals and collusion which violate state and federal laws. The deals, regulators say, were designed to help Qwest enter Minnesota's lucrative long distance phone business. The net effect of Qwest's dealing is some consumers got better phone service deals while the vast majority paid more. Minnesota Public Radio's Dan Olson reports.

October 7, 2002 - We've nearly paved over paradise in the Twin Cities with parking lots, homesites, roads and shopping centers. Less than 6 percent of the 7 county region's original habitat remains. All that's left of what the first residents saw are remnants of the prairie, the big woods, streams and other natural systems. There's a drive on to protect what remains. Minnesota Public Radio's Dan Olson reports.
September 18, 2002 - A new opera, Loss of Eden, portrays one of life's greatest tragedy's, the loss of a child. However, not just any child. In l932 two year old Charles Lindbergh, Jr. was kidnapped and apparently murdered. It was called the crime of the century. Loss of Eden compares the emotions of Anne and Charles Lindbergh with those of convicted kidnapper and murderer Bruno Hauptman and his wife Anna. Vocalessence, formerly the Plymouth Music Series, is co-producing the work with the Opera Theatre of St. Louis. The Minneapolis debut is Thursday and Saturday. August 21, 2002 - Light rail transit officials say the projected state budget deficit has forced them to delay the start of light rail service in Minneapolis. Hiawatha Line officials say service won't start until April, 2004, four months later than projected. They say construction of the eleven and half mile long line from downtown Minneapolis to the Mall of America is on time and within budget. But they say there's not enough money to begin service as early as they wanted. Minnesota Public Radio's Dan Olson reports. Hiawatha Line officials wanted the **first** train to leave the station in December 2003 with partial service from the Metrodome in downtown Minneapolis to the Veterans Hospital on the city's southern border. Metropolitan Council chairman Ted Mondale says the startup is delayed because his agency has to put together a budget that anticipates the projected state budget deficit.
