April 2, 2003 - MPR’s Dan Olson profiles Vern Sutton, a living Minnesota opera legend, who is retiring. Sutton is ending 36 years as a faculty member at the University of Minnesota School of Music. However, Sutton is not leaving the stage. As he explained to Olson, Sutton loves to perform.

March 3, 2003 - The U. S. prison population the last two decades has grown to record levels. Now, a record number of those put behind bars are getting out. Many are returning to their former neighborhoods. They're looking for jobs and a place to live, and they have a prison record. This week on Morning Edition we're meeting three Minnesotans in prison. In a couple of cases we've been able to locate them after they got out to find out how life is going. Here's Minnesota Public Radio's Dan Olson.
February 21, 2003 - Former Minnesota Governor Orville Freeman, who served as Agriculture Secretary under Presidents Kennedy andohnson, has died. He was 84. His family says Freeman died last night of complications from Alzheimer's disease. He had been living at Walker Methodist Health Center in south Minneapolis. Minnesota's 29th governor was a Minneapolis native. He was a University of Minnesota football star, a Marine during World War II and a close friend of Hubert Humphrey. Minnesota Public Radio's Dan Olson reports.
