April 2, 2002 - Wildlife managers in Wisconsin have found two more deer with chronic wasting disease. It's a relative of "Mad Cow Disease," but it appears to attack only elk and deer. Chronic wasting disease was detected in Colorado more than 20 years ago, and it seems to be spreading slowly. It's showed up in Wisconsin and South Dakota but hasn't been detected in Minnesota yet. March 4, 2002 - On this Mainstreet Radio report, MPR’s Chris Julin looks into the Ely school district starting a "wilderness high school." School officials are trying to recruit a dozen students from cities around the state. The students will go to Ely High School, but they'll also spend lots of time traveling the Boundary Water wilderness in canoes and on snowshoes.
February 15, 2002 - If you're older than 21, maybe you didn't know about Eggflips or Indy Grabs until this week. Snowboarders have known these things for years. February 13, 2002 - There's been a shortage of nurses across the country for years, and there's no sign the problem will end. In fact, the number of students entering nursing programs has been shrinking. Many hospitals have lists of nursing jobs that they can't fill, but small town hospitals have particular problems with the nurse shortage. In response, they're trying to make it easier for people who already live in their towns to become nurses. Chris Julin has this Mainstreet Radio report.
January 16, 2002 - City officials in Minnesota say they'll be cutting services if Governor Ventura gets his way. Dozens of representatives from northern Minnesota cities gathered in Duluth today to talk about the governor's plan to fix the state budget. The state is facing a two-billion-dollar shortfall. Part of the governor's plan is to reduce the amount of money the state gives to cities. Some city officials say they're being asked to shoulder more than their share of the burden. They want lawmakers to come up with a new plan. Minnesota Public Radio's Chris Julin has this report. {

December 28, 2001 - It's time for potica! Up on the Iron Range, the pastry called potica is a holiday treat. Eastern European grandmothers have made it for generations. But it's hard work, and not many people make it at home anymore. A few bakeries still make potica by hand, the way the grandmothers used to. December 14, 2001 - The Bulldogs from the University of Minnesota-Duluth are the reigning national champions in women's college hockey. But they're a bit confused about their identity this season.
