February 19, 1997 - Mediators trying to write new a management plan for Voyageurs National Park have again found themselves stuck on an old issue: the use of snowmobiles within the Park. Minnesota Public Radio's Bob Kelleher reports from Duluth: After meeting for months and finding solutions to dozens of management questions, the 12 active members of the Voyageurs Mediation panel have found themselves split over the single most contentious surrounding use of the park: snowmobiling on the park's largest land area, the Kabetogama Peninsula. January 28, 1997 - Deer hunters are defending proposals to provide emergency feed to deer, which are believed to be endangered by the effects of a severe winter in much of Minnesota; but a soon-to-be released study by the Department of Natural Resources, finds last year's highly publicized emergency deer feeding program was costly and not very effective. Minnesota Public Radio's Bob Kelleher reports from Duluth: The study of last year's emergency deer feeding program finds that the one-point-two million dollar effort reached only a small percentage of the state's deer herd, but took an inordinate amount of time and personnel from other DNR wildlife and programs. December 4, 1996 - A mediation committee has failed to reach agreement on a plan to revise management of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area wilderness. The committee negotiating the best uses for the Boundary Waters Canoe Area struggled to find any consensus after a proposal once considered a possible compromise was rejected by some Ely area residents and those who want to expand the wilderness.
