In the Brainerd lakes area, county officials are trying to bring them under control.

December 1, 1999 - Canterbury Park executives today unveiled plans for card game gambling today at a meeting of the Minnesota Racing Commission. State lawmakers cleared the way for the so-called "card club" during their last session, which ended in May.
December 1, 1999 - Doctors at the Mayo Clinic have reassuring news for people who took the diet drug combination known as Fen-Phen. They say people who took the drugs and developed heart valve problems have shown improvement in heart function since they stopped taking the drugs. The study should ease fears that people who used Fen-Phen might be at risk for ongoing heart problems.
