October 11, 1996 - The dream of many writers is to be able to blast off a draft of a book, send it to a publisher, who decides to rush it into print backed by a huge publicity campaign. Of course, the reality is usually very different, with would-be authors having to develop a thick skin to handle repeated rejection. It's a story familiar to Megan Brown of St Cloud, who after a huge struggle is now awaiting the release of her second book. What is amazing about Megan is her age- she's just nine years old. This weekend Megan will be featured nationwide on the Nickelodeon Cable Channel's "Nick News".

October 18, 1996 - Blend Memorial Day with Thanksgiving and you get something close to the ancient Aztec observance called Days of the Dead. The two day observance in early November is for honoring the memory of family and friends. The celebration is traced to the indigenous people of Mexico. The Days of the Dead is one of the most popular celebrations in Mexico and is growing in popularity in Minnesota.
October 21, 1996 - Less than a century ago, millions of acres of North America were covered with prairie, vast grasslands that were home to bison, wolves, and prairie chickens. Today, less than one tenth of one per cent of that prairie remains. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is working on the Tallgrass Prairie Project, a plan to buy and protect some of what little prairie is left.
