June 27, 1994 - MPR’s John Rabe talks with Toni McNaron, author and University of Minnesota professor, about the next challenges in gay and lesbian community after recent successes. McNaron also shares her thoughts on overcoming prejudice, building inclusion, and creating change that allows for lesbian and gay people feeling that they can come out.
July 8, 1994 - MPR’s Beth Friend interviews editors David Carr and Rick Nelson about the launch of Q Monthly, an insert inside the alternative weekly Twin Cities Reader. Carr and Nelson discuss purpose of paper for gay and lesbian community.
July 15, 1994 - Midday presents Albert Reynolds, prime minister of Ireland, speaking at University of Minnesota's Humphrey Institute. Reynolds’ address was titled, "A Charter for Peace and Reconciliation in Ireland." After address Reynolds answered audience questions, which were presented from the podium by Robert Kudrle, Associate Dean of the Humphrey Institute.
July 19, 1994 - Senate Minority Leader Bob Dole and President Bill Clinton speaking before the Plenary Session of the National Governors Association Convention in Boston's Hynes Convention Center. Speeches highlighted differing views on proposals for federal health care coverage. The biggest debate is the issue of universal coverage. Following speeches, MPR’s Dan Olson interviews Dave Durenberger, Minnesota U.S. Senator (I-R), who provides commentary about legislative health care reform.
July 23, 1994 - MPR’s Chris Roberts interviews an individual from the Gay 90’s about the establishment’s “90’s Choice” beer production. Originally conceived as an in-house beer, it expanded into a beer distribution opportunity, with part of the proceeds going to charities and AIDS research.
August 2, 1994 - Midday presents a community policing MPR documentary entitled A New Kind of Cop, followed by a discussion and call-in with Lucy Gerold, director of Community Services Bureau for the Minneapolis Police Department. Gerold comments on local efforts on community policing and National Night Out.
August 2, 1994 - Midday’s Gary Eichten interviews St. Paul Mayor Norm Coleman about the start of a city community initiative, called “SafeCity St. Paul.” Coleman details how communications, auditing, and creating an action agenda are being implemented in order to foster safer neighborhoods.
August 5, 1994 - On this First Friday program, MPR’s Beth Friend presents story and interview collection that includes: discussion with rape activists; interviews with authors Jeff Torrington and Nina Vida about their books, a look back at the history of American movie theatres, and the magic of Monarch butterflies, amongst other segments.
August 12, 1994 - An AP Network special report with President Clinton’s remarks to the National Association of Police Organizations at the Marriott City Center in Minneapolis. Sharon Sayles Belton, mayor of Minneapolis; Edward Rendell, mayor of Philadelphia; Norm Coleman, mayor of St. Paul; and Rudolph Giuliani, mayor of New York City, briefly speak prior to Clinton. Mick Ganley, Minneapolis police Sargent, introduces President Clinton.
August 15, 1994 - Sister Helen Prejean, lecturer and death row "inmate advocate,” speaking at Twin Cities seminar on the death penalty, sponsored by the group "Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights". In address, Prejean talked about her contact with death row inmates and the families of the victims, as well as her efforts to inform people of the financial and social costs of the death penalty.
