February 13, 1995 - On this pledge drive Midday program, a rebroadcast of MPR documentary "Song Catcher: Frances Densmore of Red Wing." Frances Densmore was a Red Wing woman who recorded the songs of Native Americans around the turn of the century.
February 27, 1995 - MPR’s Tom Meersman talks with Nothando Zulu, a master storyteller and member of the Minnesota Black Storytellers Alliance. Zulu shares her thoughts on the cultural and historical importance of storytelling and provides some illustrative examples.
July 11, 1995 - MPR’s Gary Eichten interviews historian Arthur McWatt about the history of Black people in Minnesota and the early days of the civil rights movement here. McWatt reflects on Roy Wilkins and local NAACP.
August 9, 1995 - Midday presents an NPR Special Report on the end of World War II in 1945, upon the U.S. bombing of Nagasaki, Japan. Scott Simon hosts report that includes various historical readings, audio, and interviews.
February 20, 1996 - Joan Growe, Minnesota Secretary of State, examines the possibility of a presidential primary happening in Minnesota. The state has long had a caucus system in place. 1992 was the first time in decades that a primary took place in the state. Growe also answers listener questions.
April 26, 1996 - Midday presents Rockin The Boat, a PRI documentary on South Africa's journey from apartheid to democracy. In 1994, South Africa held its first all-race multi-party elections, putting an end to decades of minority rule. This program traces South Africa's path through the apartheid years with the voices of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Johnny Clegg, and more.
May 30, 1996 - Midday presents a live broadcast of the Westminster Town Hall Forum, featuring Pulitzer Prize-winning historian David McCullough. His lecture is entitled, “American Society: Civil and Uncivil.”
September 11, 1996 - In connection with a local visit of the King and Queen of Sweden, Midday features a program about Sweden and Swedish immigrants to Minnesota. Studio guest is Mariann Tiblin, of the University of Minnesota; and phone guest is professor Byron Nordstrom of Gustavus Adolphus College. Tiblin and Nordstrom talk about Scandinavians and history on settlement in region.
February 17, 1997 - On this Midmorning, a Voices of Minnesota with the perseverance of two families in facing racial discrimination. Barbara Cyrus tells of her family's move to escape discrimination in the south only to encounter it in the north. Then, Archie Givens Jr. tells how his father's commitment to education led him to donate African American art and literature to the University of Minnesota.
August 7, 1997 - Midday rebroadcasts a Minnesota Public Radio documentary produced by MPR’s Mark Heistad. The Strike is On! is an oral history of the early labor movement in Minnesota, with emphasis on the struggle to organize Iron Range workers, Austin’s Hormel strike, the Minneapolis truckers strike of 1934, and more.
