April 16, 2003 - State agriculture officials say Minnesota could benefit from a new wave of European immigrants, but isn't. Many European dairy farmers are selling their farms and moving to the United States. Current law however keeps those farmers from buying land in Minnesota. Agriculture officials want to change that. They say European farmers have the desire to buy failing Minnesota dairy farms. But some say the state shouldn't lay out the welcome mat for foreigners, while Minnesota dairy farmers are struggling. April 16, 2003 - Northwest Airlines announced today that it in the first quarter of this year it lost nearly 400 million dollars, adding to what analysts expect will be one of the worst quarters in aviation history. Yesterday, Northwest outlined a plan to its machinists which includes a two percent pay cut plus over 14 hundred more job cuts. Earlier this year, Northwest cut its schedule by 12 percent and announced 49 hundred temporary layoffs. April 21, 2003 - State lawmakers return to St. Paul from the Easter recess tomorrow . They'll spend most of the next month focusing on addressing Minnesota's $4.2 BILLION dollar budget shortfall. Republican Governor Tim Pawlenty is adamant the budget should be balanced WITHOUT raising taxes. Pawlenty campaigned heavily on a no new tax pledge...a pledge originally promoted by an organization called the Taxpayers League of Minnesota. In just a few years, Taxpayers League has become a major force in Minnesota politics.

April 21, 2003 - The Cargill Foundation today announced the biggest capital contributions in its history. The foundation is the charitable arm of Minnetonka-based Cargill Corporation, the largest agribusiness company in the United States. The foundation will give 6-point-eight-million dollars to nine Twin Cities arts and civic institutions. Grant recipients include the Walker Art Center, the Mill City Museum, and the Salvation Army of Minneapolis.

April 25, 2003 - Revenue for Twin Cities commercial radio stations is up so far this year. That's according to a new report by a Los Angeles group that compiles information submitted monthly by Twin Cities stations. Nicole Garrison is a media reporter for "The Business Journal." She covered the story for this week's edition of the paper. She says LOCAL companies are buying more ad time from Twin Cities radio stations compared to national companies.
