August 31, 2007 - The Fair generates a lot of garbage -- cups and plates -- of course many many sticks. But writer Leslie Ball found that garbage is brought in as its own special display.
September 3, 2007 - Lake Superior is known for its pristine water, but one oil spill could ruin all that. U.S. Coast Guard cutters, like the Duluth-based Alder, carry first response equipment in case of a major oil spill. The Alder crew was practicing the system on the big lake and MPR's Bob Kelleher went along to see how it's done.
September 3, 2007 - This week, many Minnesota students will head back to school. Peter Smith and his wife will see their kids off to college. Their son will be a freshman at Hamline University this fall, and their daughter will be a junior at the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities. Peter expects big changes when the kids leave.

September 5, 2007 - The U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee held hearings today to figure out how to fix the nation's "structurally deficient bridges". After the I-35W bridge collapse in Minneapolis at the beginning of last month, both Congress and the transportation department have been focusing more of their attention on these vital, aging structures. U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Mary Peters provided testimony today. While she does not like the way bridges are getting classified, she says her department has not been neglecting them. Report also includes comments from U.S. Congressman Oberstar and Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak.

September 11, 2007 - While books about the African American experience are a mainstay of modern literature, book ART by African American artists is rare. In what's believed to be the first ever show of its kind, "We too are book artists" brings together the work of black book artists across the nation at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts.
