Walz beat six-term Republican Gil Gutknecht in 2008’ election. Walz says he's in debt to a number of supporters, many of whom are enthusiastic high school and college students.

November 10, 2006 - A pair of lawmakers from Minneapolis one of them an outspoken critic of Republican Governor Tim Pawlenty, will lead the Minnesota House and Senate. Senate DFLers selected Senator Larry Pogemiller as Majority Leader. Pogemiller has been a frequent critic of Governor Pawlenty over the past four years. House Democrats last night also elected Margaret Anderson Kelliher as the next speaker of the House. Minnesota Public Radio's Tom Scheck reports..
November 10, 2006 - A Matisse painting of a woman gazing at a bowl of goldfish is the center of St. Paul author Patricia Hampl's {ham-pull's} new book, "Blue Arabesque: A Search for the Sublime." Hampl first saw the painting in 1972 in Chicago and became captured by the the life and work of Matisse. The image in the painting fuels Hampl's journey to explore the ideas of artistic inspiration and creativity. Patricia Hampl is a Regents Professor of English at the University of Minnesota.
November 14, 2006 - Morning Edition’s Cathy Wurzer interviews Ilean Her, executive director of the Council on Asian Pacific Minnesotans, about a new census report that shows that while some minority groups are struggling economically, the Hmong community in Minnesota has made significant gains. Their per capita income jumped up fifty percent over the last five years.
