Humphrey III, who answers listener questions about the prevention of violence. Part 2 is an excerpt from a 1982 interview with writer Meridel Le Sueur, who died at the age of 96 on November 14th, 1996.
November 26, 1996 - Midday’s Gary Eichten speaks with newly re-elected U.S. Senator Paul Wellstone, whose in the studio to answer questions about issues that will come up in the next session of Congress. Wellstone also answers listener call-in questions.
December 2, 1996 - Some GOP gubernatorial hopefuls are objecting to an effort by party leaders who want DFL St. Paul Mayor Norm Coleman to switch parties and run for governor as a Republican. Former congressman Vin Weber, who has consulted with Coleman about changing parties says he's had no specific discussions with Coleman about the state's top office.
December 4, 1996 - Governor Carlson describes his education plan for the 1997 legislative session as a bold proposal and is asking lawmakers to give it a chance. Carlson outlined his education reform agenda today in Golden Valley. The plan includes a controversial program of tax incentives to families with children in private or public schools. DFL critics say the Republican Governor is simply repackaging his failed voucher plan from last year. Carlson is challenging those critics to produce their own ideas for improving education in the state.

December 4, 1996 - Teachers, school administrators, legislators and public policy watchers throughout Minnesota are waiting today to hear Governor Carlson's education proposals for the 1997 session. Carlson has vowed to make education his top priority during his remaining two years in office. The Governor is scheduled to unveil his plan this morning at an elementary school in Golden Valley.
December 5, 1996 - Midday discusses the various changes being proposed for Minnesota's education system with guest Joe Nathan, the director of the Center for School Change at the University of Minnesota's Humphrey Institute. Nathan also answers listener call-in questions.
December 5, 1996 - Governor Carlson is calling for standardized zoning rules for hog farms and other livestock operations in Minnesota. Carlson says local governments' ability to pass ordinances blocking the construction of livestock farms is hurting the competitiveness of Minnesota's pork industry.
December 6, 1996 - A new Minnesota museum honoring the late Senator and Vice-president Hubert Humphrey has opened in his adopted hometown of Waverly in Wright County. The fledgling museum hopes to compliment the state's other sources of Humphrey material - the University of Minnesota's Humphrey Institute and the Minnesota Historical Society. Organizers say they'll focus on Humphrey's rural roots, and try to educate young people about his place in history.
