December 31, 2008 - Minneapolis city officials say they will continue the work of a federally mediated agreement designed to improve police community relations - even though they are not renewing the agreement. The five-year long process expires at the end of the month. Zach Metoyer was a member of the Police Community Relations Council. The group was formed in order to make sure the action items in the agreement are being followed. He says there's still more work to be done in order to improve police community relations.

April 2, 2009 - A group of community activists is requesting an independent investigation into the 2006 shooting death of Fong Lee by a Minneapolis police officer. Lee's family alleged this week that police planted a gun to suggest Lee was armed.
April 3, 2009 - Excerpt of Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak commenting on 2006 police shooting death. Rybak says city officials believe allegations of misconduct in the 2006 police shooting death of a 19-year-old man are false. Earlier this week, a lawyer representing the family of Fong Lee, filed affidavits which contradict police claims that Lee had a gun when Officer Jason Andersen shot and killed him. The documents also raise the possibility that the gun found next to Lee's body was planted by another police officer. Rybak urges people to be patient and let the legal process take its course.

Lee's family has made claims that Minneapolis police planted a gun at the shooting scene to justify the killing. Lee's family believe the gun had been in police custody until the shooting. But the city says the allegation is wrong, and all due to a mix-up.
