February 5, 2007 - In this installment from The Bookshelf series, MPR’s Cathy Wurzer talks with State Senator Mee Moua about books that are important to her. Moua came to the United States as a Hmong refugee when she was nine years old, and she said that even though she never read books when she was young, stories were a big part of her childhood, particularly when she lived in a refugee camp in Thailand.
February 12, 2007 - MPR’s Bob Kelleher reports on potential Great Lakes Compact, a binding document between the eight Great Lakes states to adopt uniform state laws regulating water withdrawals. Minnesota laws are already stricter than possible compact.
February 12, 2007 - MPR’s Annie Baxter reports that All-Star catcher Joe Mauer will stay with Twins through 2010 after signing a $33 million contract. The length of contract coincides with season the team's new ballpark is scheduled to open.
March 2, 2007 - MPR’s Cathy Wurzer and Sea Stachura discuss areas in southern Minnesota that are dealing with massive amounts of snow after a storm dumped as much as 30 inches of snow. This was followed by a second storm bringing more snow and wind. The impact in cities of Winona, Albert Lea, and Mankato are highlighted.
March 7, 2007 - Minnesota 1st District Representative Tim Walz, a member of the House Veterans Affairs committee, reacts to revelations about the medical care of wounded soldiers in the wake of the Walter Reed Medical Center scandal.
March 7, 2007 - Cathy Wurzer interviews Doug Johnson, publisher of the Let's Play Hockey magazine and website, about the changing dynamics of strong hockey teams across the state. Rural and suburban teams are becoming increasingly dominant over the traditionally powerhouse Minneapolis/St. Paul school teams.
March 8, 2007 - MPR’s Marriane Combs takes a look at the early design drafts for the Minnesota Twins new ballpark. Combs highlights efforts to make venue different from a stadium…and neighborhood friendly.
April 2, 2007 - It’s Opening Day for the Minnesota Twins, but the occasion will be tinged with sadness due to the death of Herb Carneal, longtime Twins radio announcer. Carneal, who called Twins games for 45 seasons, died of congestive heart failure at 83. His passing is a great loss for fans of Twins baseball. MPR’s Jess Mador has this remembrance.
