February 23, 2007 - MPR’s Bob Kelleher reports that researchers in Duluth say Lake Superior is quickly warming, even faster than the climate around the lake. They believe decreased lake ice over that last couple decades is behind the warming. With the water temperature change comes concerns over future impact for the local environment and lake species.
February 26, 2007 - MPR’s Stephanie Hemphill reports that commercial fishermen along the North Shore of Lake Superior could be allowed to bring more lake trout to market. A bill addressing the issue received a first hearing. Commercial trout fishing has been essentially banned on Lake Superior since the 1960s.
March 2, 2007 - MPR’s Art Hughes reports on how Twin Cities residents are reacting to the large snowfall to hit the metro. Schools closed, state workers stayed home, businesses hung signs saying they're closed for the day, and the University of Minnesota cancelled classes for the first time since September 11, 2001.
April 4, 2007 - All Things Considered’s Tom Crann interviews medical analyst Dr. Jon Hallberg about congestive heart failure, a common ailment…and a common cause of death. Dr. Hallberg explains the dangers of congestive heart failure, and its diagnosis and treatment.
April 5, 2007 - All Things Considered’s Tom Crann presents excerpts from the funeral of Herb Carneal, the man known as the voice of the Minnesota Twins. The pews at Colonial Church, in Edina, were full of friends, family, and colleagues for a remembrance of the man behind that voice. Carneal was eulogized by four men who knew him well…Bert Blyleven, Frank Quilici, John Gordon, and Ernie Harwell.
April 9, 2007 - Minnesota 1st District U.S. Representative Tim Walz has made a name for himself in his first 100 days. Insiders say he's become an influential Democratic voice in Washington on veterans and the war in Iraq.
April 10, 2007 - The Minnesota Twins and Hennepin County took a major step forward towards construction on the new ballpark as the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners approved changes to an agreement between the team and the county, which will give the Twins a larger financial and legal role in the ballpark plan. County officials welcomed the changes and said they will likely set the stage for groundbreaking next month.
April 18, 2007 - All Thing Considered’s Tom Crann talks with Minnesota 1st District Representative Tim Walz about one of the deadliest days of the Iraq war in months after troop surge. The two discuss Iraq timelines, political solutions, funding of military, and Katrina recovery aid.
April 27, 2007 - MPR’s Bob Kelleher looks at one of the impacts of extreme low water levels of Lake Superior. The lake is about 18 inches below normal, creating a problem for shippers who now must load lighter to avoid hitting bottom. It has also renewed frustration over the Federal Government's harbor dredging program.
May 3, 2007 - MPR’s Chris Roberts interviews members of the Minnesota indie music group Best Friends Forever. Songwriters Jessica Seamans and Briana Smith, who go by "Jes" and "Bri," often sing about a love with some staying power…their friendship.
