September 19, 2006 - MPR’s Perry Finneli interviews "Mr. Mark" Thompson, a teacher at Como Park Elementary School in St. Paul, about being named as Minnesota's 2006 "American Stars of Teaching" by the U.S. Department of Education for his work with Hmong English Language Learner students. Thompson also discusses the creation of a Hmong-English dictionary to help students.
October 3, 2006 - MPR’s William Wilcoxen provides a recap of Game 1 in the American League Division Series, pitting the Minnesota Twins against the Oakland A’s. The game result was a disappointing one, with the A’s winning 3-2.
October 6, 2006 - MPR’s Jon Gordon reports from Oakland, where the A’s swept the Minnesota Twins in the American League Divisional Series, winning 3 games straight.
November 1, 2006 - In less than a week, voters in Minnesota's 5th district will elect a new representative to Congress for the first time in nearly three decades. MPR's Brandt Williams checks out all four campaigns.
November 8, 2006 - MPR's Mark Steil reports on how Democrat Tim Walz spent his first day as 1st District congressman-elect with family and supporters in Mankato. Walz beat six-term Republican Gil Gutknecht in 2008’ election. Walz says he's in debt to a number of supporters, many of whom are enthusiastic high school and college students.
November 8, 2006 - All Things Considered’s Tom Crann interviews Sam Hurd, a student at Mankato West High School West, who took a geography class with Tim Walz as his teacher. Hurd describes the experience, noting Walz as both ‘worldy’ and ‘normal guy.’
November 17, 2006 - It’s been thirty years since Hmong began arriving in Minnesota. MPR's Toni Randolph interviews Leng Wong, one of the first arrivals that came in the mid-70s. That small initial group now is a community of more than 50-thousand strong.
November 21, 2006 - MPR’s Art Hughes reports that Minnesota’s Justin Morneau has been named the American League's Most Valuable Player. Morneau's selection by the Baseball Writers of America comes a week after Johan Santana was named the league's Cy Young award winner. Morneau led New York’s Derek Jeter and the Red Sox's David Ortiz for the honor.
December 19, 2006 - One of the best pitchers in Minnesota Twins history says goodbye to the baseball team, as Brad Radke confirms that he is retiring after 12 years as one of the Twins' steadiest pitchers. Radke was Minnesota's Opening Day starter for nine straight years and never pitched for another big league team.
