January 3, 2001 - The Minnesota Wild hockey team is on a surprising tear. The Wild has a six-game unbeaten streak going into tonight's game against the Atlanta Thrashers at the Xcel Energy Center. Ross Bernstein is Editor of Minnesota Hockey Journal. He says even though a few of those games ended in ties, the Wild appear to be holding up well against some tough competitors.

But Vicki Richman can lay claim to having unloaded an unusual item. She sold a Minneapolis hotel on eBay for two and a half million dollars--avoiding a six-figure commission in the process. Richman, vice president of Minneapolis-based American Hospitality Management, says it all started after she decided to put the University Avenue Econo-Lodge on the market. January 3, 2001 - Morning Edition’s Cathy Wurzer talks with Democrat John Hottinger, the assistant majority leader of the senate, and Republican Tim Pawlenty, the majority leader of the house, about the start of Minnesota state legislature. Legislators are expected to tackle some sticky issues, like what to do with a projected three billion dollar surplus, along with campaign finance proposals, and the high price of prescription drugs.

January 4, 2001 - The Federal Reserve's decision to reduce interest rates yesterday came as president-elect George W. Bush began an economic forum. Bush invited three dozen high-ranking business executives to Austin, Texas to discuss the state of the economy. One of those executives is from Minnesota-- Michael Wright, who is the Chairman and CEO of Supervalu. Wright says most of the business leaders in Austin yesterday expressed concern over a slowing economy.
January 4, 2001 - Governor Jesse Ventura delivered his second State of the State address today, a speech that was heavy on tax cuts and reform proposals. Ventura highlighted cuts in the state's income, property and sales taxes that he'll detail in his budget later this month. Ventura's message was warmly welcomed by Republicans, and got mixed reviews from Democrats. Minnesota Public Radio's Laura McCallum joins me now to discuss the speech. January 4, 2001 - Governor Ventura presented his State of the State message to a joint session of the Legislature this afternoon. He used the speech to propose broad changes in Minnesota's tax system. The Governor's plan includes reforming what he called the "big three" taxes - property, income and sales. Dan Salamone, executive director of the Minnesota Taxpayers Association, says the Governor has laid out an impressive slate of reforms.
