September 15, 2000 - The Minnesota Department of Health is planning an effort to identify anyone who has worked in a Minneapolis vermiculite plant, and will survey almost 3000 homes around the plant. The WR Grace and Company processing plant has been open since 1938. The vermiculite there is believed to have contained asbestos fibers. To identify all the people who worked there, Attorney General Mike Hatch has written a letter to the company to get rosters of employees.
September 15, 2000 - The Minnesota Wild Hockey team believes it will sell out its first NHL season tomorrow when 80-thousand individual game tickets go on sale at 10am. Already the team has sold more than 15-thousand season tickets in an arena that holds just 18,600 fans. This morning, Wild Vice President Bill Robertson showed me around Xcel Energy Center where some 500 workers are hurriedly laying tile, hinging doors and painting in anticipation of the team's home opener October 11th. Robertson says its gratifying to get to this final stage where the arena is nearly ready, the team is practicing and the fans are getting excited.
September 15, 2000 - Parts of Quetico Provincial Park will be closed starting today so Ontario park officials can conduct a controlled burn. The one-point-two million acre Canadian park borders the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness to the north. Part of the park was hit by the same windstorm that downed millions of trees in the Boundary Waters last summer. Debbie McLane is a fire information officer for the northwestern region of Ontario, which includes the park. She joins us now.
September 15, 2000 - The annual Faith, Reason and World Affairs symposium opens today at Concordia College in Moorhead. The topic is spirituality and healing, among those participating are six Tibetian monks who are performing a ritualistic intricate sand painting they believe will provide healing to the entire planet. September 18, 2000 - A symposium underway at Concordia College in Moorhead is examining the relationship between spirituality and healing. Healing is part of the religious tradition, from ancient rites of early human history, through the miracles described in the Bible to the melodrama of contemporary televangelists. Recent medical research indicates faith can affect physical healing. A growing number of people may be turning to a higher power for healing. Minnesota Public Radios Dan Gunderson reports.
