September 15, 2000 - The Minnesota Department of Health says it will do a larger search for anyone who may have been exposed to asbestos from vermiculite at a North Minneapolis Plant. The Health Department says it will expand an earlier search done by the Environmental Protection Agency to include 2 to 3 thousand homes within a quarter mile of the former WR Grace plant. September 15, 2000 - NOTE BACKANNOUNCE: Governor Jesse Ventura stepped into the jackal's lair earlier today with an appearance at the Radio and Television News Directors' Association meeting in Minneapolis. Ventura -- who refers to the news media as media "jackals" in his latest book -- hosted his weekly radio show from the convention and briefly addressed a lunchtime audience. But as Minnesota Public Radio's Michael Khoo reports, for all his bluster, Ventura and the press received each other cordially.
September 15, 2000 - If you've missed any of St. Paul's Peanuts on Parade Snoopys this summer you can now see most of them in one place. The city is gathering 75 of the 101 statues along Wabasha street in downtown. We caught up with a few Snoopy spectators earlier today.
September 15, 2000 - The first post-primary debate between Minnesota's DFL, Republican and Independence Party candidates for U.S. Senate will take place on Monday morning. Minnesota Public Radio will broadcast the event live on our Midday program, but the sponsoring organization is the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce. As in any debate, the Chamber faces the challenge of deciding who to include. DFL candidate Mark Dayton, Republican candidate Rod Grams, and Independence Party candidate James Gibson will be on stage Monday morning. Four other candidates are also on the ballot, but were not invited to participate. Bill Blazar, the Senior Vice President at the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce, comments.

September 15, 2000 - Governor Jesse Ventura plunged wholeheartedly into the fall campaign season Thursday, making good on his pledge to help build the Independence Party after the primary election. Ventura stumped for the party's congressional candidates in the morning, and by evening he was working a crowd in Fridley, trying to help the city's D-F-L mayor become an Independence Party legislator. The governor will make appearances on behalf of three MORE Independence Party candidates this weekend, as part of his effort to get some legislative allies at the state Capitol. Minnesota Public Radio's Amy Radil reports.

September 15, 2000 - The Cathedral of St. Paul has a new statue, a bronze image of Saint Paul the Apostle. Ironically, it's the first statue of Saint Paul ever for the 85-year-old cathedral that carries his name. When Archbishop John Ireland commissioned the cathedral in the early twentieth century, he said it was enough of a dedication to give it the saint's name. The new statue is fifteen feet high and weighs over one thousand pounds. It was sculpted by Glen Terry, an artist from East Bethel, Minnesota. Terry says he was interested in the project because of his devotion to the apostle.
September 15, 2000 - You might soon see ads that tell you to "Just Say No" to antibiotics. At the Minnesota Medical Association convention this morning in Duluth, members will consider a resolution calling for a publicity campaign urging patients to stop leaning on their doctors for antibiotics. Doctors say this is one part of a much larger effort to fight the spread of antibiotic-resistant disease. Minnesota Public Radio's Chris Julin reports.
